Advantages: safe, beutifull views, well renound

Disadvantages: , expensive

Me and my familly stayed at the sheraton gesira on the nile, at cairo for 2 days,it was not so much of a resort more of a hotel.

we entered cairo with a weird sense of insecurity, everyone attacks you at the airport they all want you to go with them, with us feeling allianated we decided to opt for safe"sheraton"they were fairly expensive but they provided a trusty service they offered personal taxi tours to the pyramids, cairo museum, carpet factories & much more, they had a 4-5 resturants in the building with a good range of hotel shops, they also done a wonderfull boat tour at night on the nile(belly dancers&dico, dinner included)the bedroom had amazing views overlooking the city & down the nile, all in all it was fabulous

cairo is a dangerous place for tourists with the high levels of crime but staying at a good 4 or 5* hotel is the best thing to do,with our peace of mind we immensley enjoyed the holiday, defienatly go again

Interesting op, especially after 'tim russell' begs to differ about the security factor......Egypt is definatly a must for me, no matter how dangerous it is after all we only live once, and after living in Papua New Guinea and now London I don't expect it could be any worse !! Thanks for the tips though !!

Bit too brief - and misleading: Cairo is actually very safe for tourists, most Egyptians will try & help in the unlikely event of anyone trying to rob or attack you. The worst thing I've had to deal with when working there is over-enthusiastic papyrus salesmen!
