Advantages: Clean, central, cheap
Disadvantages: Rooms without baths can be a bit small
As with many city destinations in Europe, one of the cheapest ways to book accommodation in Lisbon is to wait until you arrive. There is a hotel booking facility at the airport, where English-speakers will book a hotel in the price range of your choice - though I defy anyone to find anywhere really expensive. Through this system I booked into the Hotel Europa - situated at the heart of the commercial district and only a ten minute walk away from the Barrio Alto nightlife. A spacious double room with balconies and a bath - which was almost big enough to swim in - cost only £10 a night per person and that included continental breakfast. In fact you can stay even more cheaply if you share a bathroom - for only £8 a night each including breakie - though those rooms are very small. The staff are very friendly and you can come and go as you please through the night. They are also happy to let you leave your bag there on your final day after checking out if you have time to kill before flying home. Highly recommended

- 18/11/00 I have to disagree here as it can be very easy to get stung for hotel accomodation in Lisbon. Over the last two years i have paid anywhere between £25 and £150 per night depending on the district the hotel is located in. Looks like you did very well to find a good room that cheap. Well done! |
