Advantages: Great location

Disadvantages: No air conditioning

I must admit that I was surprised to read such a glowing review of this place.

My fiancé and I stayed at this hotel this past weekend and it is quite possibly the worst hotel experience I have had. Visually this hotel is perfectly exceptable and modern looking.

When you first arrive at the hotel you think that you have found expedia's best hotel deal ever. The reception and dining areas are pleasant, the staff are courteous and reasoanbly helpful and you think you are in for a good deal. Well, that's all very well if you stay at the hotel in the summer........however, if you are travelling to Bruxelles during the summer this hotel should be avoided at all costs. The reason being, the rooms are hot, hot, hot!

For some reason this hotel is of the opinion that it doesn't need an air conditioning system that works. In addition, the central heating pipes were continually readiating heat, and the room must have been above the kitchen or something similar as it was literally sauna like. We had to walk around in our underwear all the time and needed to have all of the windows open all of the time, which was a great annoyance as we either had to sleep in a sauna or be kept awake by the traffic.

The rooms were reasoanbly good in terms of facilities. Seperate bathroom and toilets, two single beds pushed together as one, some chairs, and old TV and a rather battered table. The rather large wardrobe contained an easy to use safe. The shower had good pressure and was entirely acceptable, although the shower room looked out onto the street and the only think preserving one's dignity was a curtain across the window. My only real complaint about the room, aside from the obvious, was the bed wasn't very uncomfortable. We only had one thin pillow each and the two single beds were uneven, meaning that one of us slept higher than the other.

Location wise, this hotel is perfect for all the major city attractions, save for perhaps the Atomium, but I couldn't help feeling that the nearby Novotel would have presented a more pleasant sleeping expereince.

Now, you get what you pay for so I was not expecting an outstanding hotel. But, for me, to invite guests into a hotel with a broken air con system, in the middle of summer, is just one step too far and caused a miserable stay with limited sleep, that left us exhuasted and listless throughout the trip.

If you are minded to stay at this hotel I would say either go in the winter, or phone in advance to see if the aircon system has been fixed.

A dissapointed customer.

Summary: Avoid during the summer
