Advantages: Very grand and beautiful hotel

Disadvantages: located in Red Light District

The Grand is housed in the former Town Hall, an imposing building right in the heart of Amsterdam's infamous Red Light District. Queen Beatrix was married in what is now the hotel's ballroom. The hotel is without question Amsterdam's most stylish hotel (except for those who like the millimalism of Anoushka Hempel's Blake Hotel): full of antiques and large paintings. Café Roux, one of the hotel's restaurants, has French/British masterchef Albert Roux as an adviser. He designs the menus and regularly drops by to keep an eye on the proceedings. Prices, however, are remarkably reasonable. Do try the Souflet Suisse!
