I think it is essential to do your homework when visiting somewhere like New York. It is such a huuuuge place, with so much to see and do, that unless you have a rough idea of what is located where, you'll end up spending half your holiday too-ing and fro-ing and subsequently waste a lot of time. When we were going to New York in January of this year, we had a small list compiled of things we "definitely" wanted to see and a larger list of "possible" things we wanted to see, so that we could prioritise those on the "definite" list and try to group these together, in terms of areas in the city, and therefore hopefully avoid any ... The first time i went to New York (in 1999) i was in total awe of the place. It was the first time id ever travelled to America, and i dreamt about in NYC for years previous. This is the hotel we stayed at all those years ago. At the time, The Herald Square Hotel was very competitively priced (i won't say cheap - This is New York after all!) and we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with how nice the building itself was. The little golden cherubs adorning the exterior are a nice touch - and help to give a positive first impression of the place. Introduction: Every year, my partner and I take a trip to NYC. This is more of less so I can catch up on the latest theatrical happenings on Broadway. We had our flights sorted, so needed a hotel. Although a cheap price is more important to us than quality (when it comes to city breaks, when in the city why do you need to stay in your room??) we didn't fancy going down the hostel route (we're getting too old to 'slum' it)...so on our quest to find budget or cheap hotels, after a few of our more preferred hotels were fully booked, we came across this one.
