Advantages: Good, location, for motorways etc

Disadvantages: Expensive, and varied, quality

I have stayed in a range of Hilton Hotels over the last eight years or so, mainly on short breaks or weekends away. I always try to book one that has a swimming pool for that extra special treat. In the main, most hotels have a good pool but on a couple of occasions in the past the pools were being refurbished. Try Cardiff Hilton for the most fabulous light airy hotel layout and a tank pool suspended on the second floor of this city centre hotel; fabulous for a rampant weekend break in this cultural oasis.

In some of the refurbished hotels twin and double rooms are ideal for a couple with good clean en-suite bathrooms and toilets. Some of the older properties have pretty dark and dismal room decor and worn, sad looking bathrooms. For example East Midlands Hilton is fairly sad looking on the inside. In contrast there is a former Stakis hotel, now a Hilton in Northampton that is very bright, well-furnished and clean. Some of the layouts of these hotels means a long walk through corridors from reception to your room and this is not appealing for single women or for anyone with heavy cases or mobility problems.

Car parking is usualy no problem as these hotels have sufficient land, but some like East Midlands Hilton have restricted parking facilities.

Food is expensive and not really exciting for the money. Bar service is generally OK with suficient range of drinks. Bar snacks and room service are themed such as Burgers, Curries, Fish and Chips etc. Room service breakfasts offer a good range of food, juice and hot drinks. Caffe Chino is a pattiserie service with a very expensive and limited range of foods such as sandwiches and panini.

Hotels are ususally well-sited for towns cities or just off the major roads so easy to locate; booking can be made by telephone and internet although the internet site doesn't always respond to search via a browser.. use www.ask.co.uk if in difficulty.
