Advantages: Easy access to main routes, known standard
Disadvantages: sometimes out in the sticks
I travel quite a lot with my job, and in Europe I prefer to drive. Quite often I have to make overnight stops for one night only - mainly in Germany. I don't have a limit on what I spend on a hotel and could easily go "top notch" if I felt like it. But I prefer comfort at a reasonable price, and the Holiday Inn chain seem to offer me that. I stay at the holiday Inn Aachen or Bonn/Cologne airport quite often as they are on a regular run I take to Italy. Being usually quite busy I joined the Priority Club, which the chain offer. It is a kind of frequent stayers programme where you can earn points for free weekends and stays etc. The main reason I joined is that I find by using their toll free number, they find me a room on my route, to what spec, I require and usually exactly where. If the one I want is full they find me the closest one. The rooms are usually well equipped, sometimes TV teamaking facilities, (rare in european hotels) en suite etc. A good choice of room service menu. I liked the pizza service at Aachen. The restaraunts are usually quite good- although I wasnt over happy with the recent scandinavian theme they wee running. Aachen has one restaraunt with adjoining bar, Bonn/Clogne has a large restaraunt with a separate bar which offer good bar meal alternatives. In the main they tend to be on the outskirts of town (except Dusseldorf which has two - 1 in the city). But they are well site for autobahn exits and entries. If my wife is with me and we are at the place I go to in Italy we usually spend the weekend in Trieste staying at the Diuno Holiday Inn. I have also stayed in the far east (China, Beijing, and Indonesia, Jakarta) and found them equally as good.
