Advantages: Clean, good location, nice facilities

Disadvantages: Expensive for what it is, rooms a little on the small side

For a treat for my boyfriend I chose to whisk him away for a romantic weekend in Edinburgh, and chose a hotel within close proximity of Princes Street with spa and gym facilities. On arriving at the hotel we had to wait a while for our room to be ready so decided to have a drink in the bar. This was pleasant and the hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. When we were given our card for our room, I was a little dissappointed to discover that the room was not as nice as I had expected.I felt it was a little on the small side, but maybe this was to be expected leaving booking to the last minute! Being a cold wintry weekend we wanted to make the most of the hotels facilities, so spent quite a lot of the day in the spa and swimming pool. There is a steam room, sauna and good sized swimming pool which was not too crowded. A little disappointing is that the spa shuts at 8pm, however this is a family hotel so to be expected. There are also some treatment rooms where you need to book in advance for massage and other treatments, as we were told these were all booked up, another bummer!!!
The hotel is located near the Royal Mile, and about 10-15 mins walk from Princes Street. There is a bus stop directly opposite and a taxi rank outside the door where a porter will ensure you are okay. Although we decided not to eat in the hotels restaurant as we wanted to experience a bit of Edinburgh, we had a quick look at the menu which seemed reasonably priced and quite a variety of choice available.
Breakfast was very pleasant, again not the best I have had, but very good for the price. This consisted of a buffet, which had lots of meats, cereals , juices etc and then a hot menu which you could order from. Breakfast was served promptly allow we did have to wait a good 20 mins to get into the restaurant as breakfast is very popular in this hotel!
Overall I would say the hotel is a nice, relaxed and friendly stay, for couples or families, I just felt that perhaps it is a little overpriced for what it is, but nevertheless we enjoyed our stay very much!
