The Hotel 1898 is built in the structure that was once home to the Philippine Tobacco Company. It was built in 1881 by Catalan architect Josep Oriol Mestres. After a series of remodelings in the early 20th century, the building was home to the offices of the tobacco company and several financial entities, until just a few years ago. The hotel has suites with private pool and gardens, and four categories of rooms, which are each soundproof and equipped with the finest finishings and technologies. It also has five conference rooms, restaurants, bars, cafés, a library, and a Business Center with free internet access (ADSL and wireless). ... especially given the excellent location. The only worry I had was how quiet it would be at night given Las Ramblas is so busy however this proved not to be a worry, partly because we were out most nights partying ourselves and even when in the room there was minimum noise. The check in was efficient and polite and then a porter carried our bags to our room, I was pleased with how big it was and it was spotlessly clean. This is the hotel we stayed in while visiting Barcelona and it enjoys an excellent location as it is right on Las Rambles which is the main tourist street in Barcelona and a lovely place to walk along in the evening and enjoying all of the street performers. My boyfriend booked it online using Expedia and it worked out at one hundred and eighty euro per night for a standard double room which I thought was quite reasonable especially given the excellent location.
