The Hotel 1898 is built in the structure that was once home to the Philippine Tobacco Company. It was built in 1881 by Catalan architect Josep Oriol Mestres. After a series of remodelings in the early 20th century, the building was home to the offices of the tobacco company and several financial entities, until just a few years ago. The hotel has suites with private pool and gardens, and four categories of rooms, which are each soundproof and equipped with the finest finishings and technologies. It also has five conference rooms, restaurants, bars, cafés, a library, and a Business Center with free internet access (ADSL and wireless). They had a open pool on the top roof with an array of sun loungers.
The location was fantastic a side street just off the Ramblas, whih id great walking distance to all the shops and not too far from the Marina.
I used the ironing service and my clothes came back looking like they;d just been purchased from a shop i was stunned!

Wow I am stunned by this hotel. I won a holiday to Barcelona, Feb 07 and was lucky enough to stay in this hotel. It was amazing! The staff were so friendly I felt like a star! The rooms were done up and cleaned immacutley. Very spacious a massive bed, air com, mini bar, shower, bath , loo , wardrobe it was fantastic. This is the hotel we stayed in while visiting Barcelona and it enjoys an excellent location as it is right on Las Rambles which is the main tourist street in Barcelona and a lovely place to walk along in the evening and enjoying all of the street performers. My boyfriend booked it online using Expedia and it worked out at one hundred and eighty euro per night for a standard double room which I thought was quite reasonable especially given the excellent location. The only worry I had was how quiet it would be at night given Las Ramblas is so busy however this proved not to be a worry, partly because we were out most nights partying ourselves and even when in ...
