No worries in Toulouse (Hotel Airport Courtyard by Marriott (Toulouse))

Advantages: Easy, comfortable, great value

I had to find a hotel at quite short notice last time I went to France, and needed it to be near the airport in Toulouse as we were arriving late in the evening and therefore not hiring a car until the next day.

Hotel Courtyard by Marriott (Toulouse Airport) has a rather cumbersome title! However, it appears that it's all part of Marriott#s branding to call it that. It's about three miles from the airport, so doesn't cost too much if you get a taxi (though be warned - those crafy drivers charge you for SUITCASES!).

We were welcomed very nicely at about 9 p.m. If we had wanted to, there was food available, but we had decided to economise and look after ourselves for that evening and for breakfast the next day.

The room was really nice and well equipped. Very comfotable bed, excellent bathroom arrangements, TV and iron, plus air-conditioning. We were there in August, and the hotel felt almost deserted, which might explain why we only had to pay 49 Euros a night for the room, plus 1.10 each for the Toulouse tourist tax. We were there for two nights.

The hotel website had said that they did a free shuttle service to and from the airport, but my French on the telephone is not that confident, so I reckoned to use the taxi on the first night, and then walk back to the airport early the next day to pick up the hire car, as it wasn't worth paying for an extra day's hire. I asked in reception for walking directions to the airport, whcih surprised them - nobody would do such a thing! It was not even permitted to reach the airport on foot, as the only road in was a motorway. I asked what the local people did, to which they were not sure, but they did offer the shuttle. When I said that I needed it immediately, (we had to get somewhere else that day) they got me a taxi - and said that the hotel would pay! Cool!

At the end of that day, with the hire car easily parked (free) in the hotel car park, we ate in the hotlel restaurant. This was a special treat to mark the end of our short visit, and cost around 50 Euros, including two courses and a bottle of wine. There was quite a lot of choice on the menu and the food was very good.

When we left, there were no nasty hidden extras to pay. We had noticed that the normal full price of the room would have been about 200 Euros, so felt that we had had a very good deal. We would stay there again if we went back to Toulouse.

Booking was really easy online.
