Advantages: right near the beach..near the shops..good food..breathtaking views
Disadvantages: could do with more tv channels nothing major that would spoil your stay
hotel america is lovley..booked with travel republic £1.200 all in.
transfers were smooth and trouble free..a bus was waiting for you..there were 4 drop offs to other hotels in the area..took an hour and a half which was nice to look at the scenery once out of palma..aircon bus showing the temp outside.
checking in was dealt with quickly by staff who were very helpfull.
inside is marble and dark wood which was very clean and welcoming.
we were issued with bands and given a family room on the 2nd floor..we had previously asked for a low floor so were happy with this.
the room was very spacious..breathtaking views of the sea and beach and the pool areas.nice bathroom..plenty of towels and friendly maids who made a fuss of our small son..
tv..you dont need to hire a remote control you can use the menu button..bbc2 in the daytime and cnn and spanish channels in the evening.
the town shows all football games and soaps.
good size balcony and fab view of the sea when sitting on the bed.
we went off season at the end of september and the corridors were quiet..we didnt hear any banging or noise at night and by 11.45 it was all quiet and all you could hear was the lapping of the waves.
the hotel itself is immaculate..there is always someone cleaning..the pool area was clean and tidy as were the surrounding garden areas which are slightly shaded and nice to sit in surrounded by palms trees and view of the sea if youv had to much sun.this hotel literally is above the sea and you can lok out to sea from your sunbed..fantastic..the location is perfect.the lifts were fine..you didnt have to wait more than 2 mins at the most..everywhere in the hotel and on floors are sofas and chairs dotted around..literally wherever you were there was somewhere to sit..very comfy sofas in reception and dotted near the resturant..lots of broucheres on things to do.
2 big pools and a baby pool..all are preitty cold but fine once your in.very clean in the pools.plenty of sunbeds..people did still reserve them but we didnt have any problems finding any late morning or even early afternoon..maybe this is niot the case high season but this seems to be the case everywhere now.lifeguard is very helpful and can deal with cuts and grazes and advice.
the food is great for a 3 star..3 sittings for breakfast lunch and dinner..you d be hard pushed to find something that you didnt like..full english breakfasts were lovley..streaky bacon..proper sausges..eggs any way you want them...tea.coffee and juice on tap..different types of cereal..fresh milk..fruit..continental breakfast..toasting machine etc.
lunches were similar to dinners..chicken..veal..pasta..beef etc with different kind of potatoes..chips and plenty of salads rices dips and sauces.. peopke who couldnt find anything they liked would be far and few..there was a great varied choice..i read a review on here that the pudding were truly awful...they are not ..if you have a sweet tooth you will love these creamy desserts and cakes..no beer and soft drinks just wine or juices so if you wanted beer or cokes etc you were able to bring these in from one of the bars..
there is a smoking bar with a tv in and i am a smoker but it was to smoky for me ..there is a lovley cool veranda outside the smoking bar with tables and chairs which is nice to sit at.all the alcohol plus cocktails that you want served here plus tea and coffee..
the pool bar serves toasties hot dogs ,chips etc and a fridge with cold meats..salads make your own sandwiches is situated in the corner..
you can get all your booze cold drinks..self service tea and coffees here.
the pizza pasta bars door open on the pool area on the ground floor..this is below reception and have to walk down 1 flight of stairs to get to this as lift dosent go there but good exercise and if yiu had a pram you could just walk via the pool area to get to it..
im not keen on pizza so i didnt try it but they looked nice..also available were pasta dishes..chips..usaully a meat dish and cakes and self service tea and coffee which we took up to the room in the evenings or you could take up water or fill up water bottles with water for your room.we took a travel kettle and took milk and water tea bags upstairs with us..but you didnt need to really as still availbale up to midnight..if you wanted some in the middle of the night there are machines where you can buy water but we didnt need to.plently of high chairs in the resturant.
entertainment is the same the world over..parrot shows..karoke that type of thing..great little kids disco.. at 8.30 you ll know the words by day 2 followed by bingo then the main show started around 10 didnt see much of it as was knackered by sun ,sea and sand and to much food..
location of this hotel cannot be faulted..2 mins from the beach..you can go 2 or 3 ways..down through the pool area with a few steps..great going down but steep coming back all the better to work of the food..
the other way is down the side of the hotel with nice scenery all around to look at ..
the beach itself is clean and nice warm water waves can be a bit choppy but the kids loved it...lifeguard on duty and its surrounded by coves.
the town is about a 3 mins walk from the entrance of the hotel with around 50+ shops with souvenirs and beach equipment etc..lots of bars with entertainment in the evenings..a couple of kids places with bouncy castles dodgem type things and rideswhich are reasonable at a few euros.there are a couple of supermarkets which are quite pricy for basics such as 2.50 for a loaf of kingmills but as bread is readily availble you woukldnt need anything from the supermarkets..the chemist is quite expensive 9 euros for calamine lotion but my son had prickly heat so had to get it.
we had to see a doctor there because my sone got fragment of rocks in his heel from smashing about on the rocks..his fault he had been told to stay away..the doc which is the one next to the chemist charged 80 euros all in and did 2 visits to remove the fragment and charges you 80 euros and charges insurance company for the 2nd visit..there are private docs dotted around everywhere and we found 80 euros the cheapest..some were charging 100 euros..there may be cheapest but thank this is the average..the doc was very nice and spoke very good english and no waiting around..i heard that there is a national health service that you can make appointments at but we didnt find it.
there are numerous cheap clothes shops..beware the shop just by the beach, double the prices of anywhere else.
the town is like a big square..in the middle of it is a big sandpit and playground thats great for kids..and a burger king
we had 4 really hot days then a very bad storm which at the time we went wasnt a great suprise..the storm dis damage to the beach which made water pool in a long stream over a 3rd of the beach and turned the sea brown with sand for a day..workers were trying to ebb the flow with a bulldozer on the beach by by afternoon it was business as usal and everyone was back on the beach..because the rain was so heavy one of the bars flooded and a few of the rooms but the hotel dealt well with it and went from room to room checking in case any damage.the
pool areas were quite slippery but the htoel couldnt do much about that and dried up once the sun made a weak apperance..
buses stop just outsde hotel to take you to the markets and other resorts and to palma.the glass bottom boat is great way to see the island and 2 adults and 2 kids of got a boat to porto cristo there for 2 hours all for only 16 euro..they were happy to haggle for end of season.boats stop just at the bottom of the hotel
guests at the hotel were mixed, mainly english..people were friendly..no lager lout here..friendly and relaxed
the day we left was 27 degrees very hot.
you had to book the transfers home either by phone or online..we did it online from one of the computers in one of the bars..2 euros for 10 mins..very quick and easy and you could check your emails in the remander of the time..hope i havnt missed anything out..
this hotel is in a perfect location..very clean and quiet but not to quiet..just right for a relaxing holiday..
go ,have a great time..we did.
Summary: lovley hotel..would go again in a shot..
