Advantages: Pools, Location
Disadvantages: Some rude members of staff, Crappy vending machines!
On arrival at the Hotel America, which was in the resort of Calas De Majorca, Majorca we were greeted by the male receptionist who didnt seem too pleased to be there! Considering it was 4.30 a.m, he could be forgiven for that I suppose! The Reception area was impressive, as was the hotel from the outside. Our room was situated on the 3rd floor, easily reached by the stairs or any of the 4 lifts. and our view was really breathtaking, overlooking the sea and the pool. It was a sight to remember, especially at sunset. Our room had two single beds pushed together, and two separate beds. The wardrobe space was quite deceiving, but there was plenty of drawer space. There was a telephone but it didnt work. The bathroom consisted of a bath and shower, toilet, large sink area and a bidet, and it was very spacious and bright. Breakfast was served between 8 - 10, lunch was between 1 - 3 and dinner was between 6 - 9. The menu was repetative and alot of the food was cooked in a garlic sauce. Even though it was delicious, beware if you dont like garlic! I cant really say the food was out of this world, but there was something to suit all tastes. We had an Italian night and a Spanish night too, where the menu was a bit different. Throughout the day, if you feel like snacking, the buffet bar was open from 10 until midnight, and it consisted of mainly, salad, chips, burgers, sausages and other bits and bobs, so it kept my 2 year old happy as she wasnt too fussed on the mealtime menus! The restaurant staff were friendly and had a smile for us everyday. As we went in October, there were only 2 bars open in the night, and one was for adults only so we couldnt go in there with the baby. The "Salon Sofia" where we spent most of our evenings was quite big, but the entertainment was more for adults, and there was nearly always a queue for the bar. The bar staff were quite ignorant, with the exeption of "Simon", he was very friendly!, and guest
s were only permitted 2 drinks at a time. There was a good choice of alchoholic beverages available, but the San Miguel tasted a bit watered down! The entertainment team were brilliant, full of life and always friendly and polite, and they brought the crowd together. My only complaint about the entertainment was that there was nothing at all to amuse a toddler. It rained for 3 days and the daytime activities were for adults, such as darts and archery, so we were stuck in the room at times. Beware of the vending machines, and computer games though, as we must have put about 15 euros in over the week, and got nothing in return. When we complained at reception, they werent bothered at all. They were probably the worst members of staff in the hotel, as everything seemed like a huge chore, and at times I felt too intimidated by their attitude to ask them for service! The pool area was lovely, plenty of sunloungers and inflatables for the kids, and the beach was just a short walk from the hotel. The resort was lovely, with plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants, and two small amusement parks for the kids, with bouncy castles, bumper boats, and motorbike racetracks. Overall, it was a lovely week and there wasnt much to grumble about. Im not sure if Id visit again though, perhaps in the middle of the high season, as there seemed to be alot more going on there, after reading other peoples reviews. but it was very good value for money.

- 15/10/02 Hi and a friendly welcome to dooyoo, enjoy the site! Wouldn't it be a good idea to tell the readers where exactly this hotel is to be found? You seem to write only for the ones who know it anyway. Cheers, Malu |
