Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Was a bit noisy due to central location
Myself and my boyfriend went to Paris in June 2007 and stayed at the Hotel Francais. This hotel is an absolute gem, a real find in an expensive city! Although only a 2 star we felt it well deserved to be a 3.
The rooms, although small, are well equipped. Ours had a double bed bedside table, dresser, wardrobe and iron/ironing board. The TV has 2 english channels (both news) and the room has it's own mini bar, which at 1Euro50 for a bottle of water is very reasonably priced and actually better than some drinks you can buy on the street. The bathroom was clean with a great shower with good pressure and a constant temperature. The room was made up every day with clean towels and bed linen.
The only thing I would be catious of is the breakfast which at 8Euros50 we thought was a bit steep. However the selection there is quite good - your average continential breakfast with pastries, yoghurts and cereal etc.
The best thing about this hotel though is the location!! If you want a base to see Paris this is it. Only 30 seconds walk from Gare du Nord metro station you can get to most places in Paris from here.
It is worthwhile venturing a bit further afield for dinner the 'restaurants' in this area are not up to much although the cafes do some nice bagettues for lunch.
All in all I would say that this hotel is very good value for money and if you just want a base to stay and explore Paris then you couldn't get much better than this.
