Advantages: Great hotel fabulous facilities and setting
Disadvantages: can be expensive for food and definitely alcohol
I was recently on holiday in Muscat, Oman and stayed in the Grand Hyatt. This is a spectacular hotel and is located on the Shatti Al Qurm beach overlooking the Gulf of Oman, in the middle of the diplomatic and government district in Muscat. Other international 5 stars hotel are also close by on the beach and include the Intercontinental and the Crowne Plaza.
It has 280 rooms and suites and is an ideal hotel for both business and pleasure and is frequented by both business travellers and holiday makers alike. The rooms are all very spacious with either views of the pool, the Gulf of Oman or the mountains. All the rooms have balconies although there isn't any chairs or table on the balcony but these can be requested from housekeeping. Well designed and laid out the rooms come with all facilities including flat screen tvs, in room safe, desk, robes, air conditioning (which you need), free bottles of mineral water and fruit which is replenished daily.
The bathroom is also very spacious with a walk in shower and bath as well as large vanity mirror shelving and basin and a hairdryer (hidden, did take us a phone call to find it!!!)
Room service is excellent and very quick brought into the room on a expandable table, there is a good range of choices on offer for all palates.
The dining options are good although not cheap, as is any alcohol. Being an Islamic state hotels must hold a alcohol licence and have any drink served by non muslims. All alcohol is very very expensive, so don't expect to be drinking much alcohol, although with it being an islamic state there is always excellent fruit coktails available make sure you try the melon and mint drink - quite fabulous.
There are several eating options:
Tuscany - an excellent Italian - pizzas are fab as are the rolls.
Sirj Tea Lounge - a cafe in the lobby with excellent sandwiches (open roast beef & horseradish sandwich with fries is particularly good.)
Mokha Cafe - this is where breakfast is served as well as Friday brunch and has a good mixture of middle eastern and international cuisine.
Marjan Poolside Restaurant & Bar: South Eastern inspired dishes, serves dinner in season and also serves light lunches and fab cocktails.
Rooftop Grill House - this is an excellent restaurant although you should wear very cool clothes as it can get very warm and humid at night. All kinds of meats and seafoods can be grilled to your taset with a huge salad bar and potato options. Great meal and the Omani prawns are spectacular.
Ther is also the John Barry Bar, Club Safari pub and Copacabana nightclub.
All the restaurants and bars attract not only hotel residents but local and expats from Muscat and are exceptionally popular.
The hotel also has a gym and very impressive pool area, the swimming pool is temperature controlled and has a lazy river and toddler splash pool, this can also get busy during the season with expat kids as well as guests. There are plenty of sunloungers all spread throughout the grounds and poolside, staff are always on hand with iced towels and cucumber and help you set up beach umbrellas and towels for your sun loungers.
The hotel has full conference and business facilties so you can stay in touch whatever your stay. Hotel staff are very helpful and always willing to organise anything for you, there is a tour office on site to organise visits to the surrounding city and country (can highly recommend the city tour).
About a 20 minute drive from the airport the hotel is easily accessible. Guests can earn Hyatt Gold Passport points on their stay.
We had a fabulous stay here very relaxing and chilled exactly what we were looking for. Well worth a visit.
Summary: great hotel
