Advantages: Great quality room, staff, and Thai food

Disadvantages: Cost of Drinks and Maybe the room was a little small.

I was recently on my honeymoon in Thailand and our first stop was the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Bangkok is an amazing city that you will either love or hate but that is not the point of this review. During our stay we stayed at the 5 star Majestic Grande Hotel in the Centre of the town.

~The Location~

This hotel was located off Sukhumvit Road on Soi 2 and was in walking distance to Lumpini Park and 5 minute walk to the sky train which gave you unlimited access to the whole city at a small charge.

~Staff~

The staff at the Majestic Grande were extremely helpful, friendly and always pleased to suggest ideas for sight seeing trips and dinners out. They were also always keen to help you carry any items you were carrying to you room (at the time this was slightly unnerving but at the end of the day they were only being friendly) they were also happy to stop what they were doing and have a chat with you when they could.

~The Room~

The room was a bit on the small side for what I was expecting from a 5 star hotel but it was extremely well furnished and very comfortable. There was an awful lot of marble on show and it was all very grand. The bed was extremely comfortable and long enough for a 6 foot 3 man to fit on comfortably. As it was our honeymoon we were also given a bottle of wine and a special honeymoon cake upon our arrival to make our stay more pleasurable.

~The Room Service~

For the first time in my life on this holiday I ordered room service and it was amazing. An experience I will hopefully be repeating soon although it may bankrupt me in this country. We ordered starters, two Thai curries and a desert the exact names I cannot remember but it was delicious the smell was fantastic.

~The Pool~

The pool at this hotel was not huge but it was adequate for the purpose required. i.e. to cool down after a long hot day sightseeing in Bangkok. I personally loved the three elephants which spurted water from their trunks into the pool.

~The Bar~

The bar was very expensive but the atmosphere was extremely fun. On nights the hotel put on a lounge bar band which was able to belt out a tune and even took requests but they did have a certain "Lost in Translation" feel about them. If you have seen that film you will know what I am talking about.

~The Prices~

The hotel was expensive in Thai standards although this was not really due to the Thai food on the menu as this was reasonably priced. The expense came in the form of the European food (which you don't really go to Thailand to eat) and the drinks which were quite honestly a rip off. We actually ended up walking to the supermarket at the end of the road to buy drinks to drink in the room which worked out at about 1/6th of the price.

I am unsure what the cost of the room per night was when we booked this holiday as we booked it as a package through kuoni (who incidently were great and kept us organised throughout our whole three week touring holiday). The hotel website suggests that the room per night rate is around 4,865 BHT which is roughly 90 pounds per night. This is expensive and I am sure you could find many acceptable alternatives if you are travelling on a budget but it is a good option if you fancy a night in a luxury hotel.

~The Restaurant~

We only ate once at the hotel restaurant this was for lunch one day when we had slept in. We had the lunch buffet which was very good. The buffet had a wide selection of Thai specialities that were all hot and delicious. I tried as many as I could as it was an all you can eat buffet and I wanted to get my moneys worth.

~Summary~

This was my first experience of Thai hospitality and I was not disappointed. The staff were friendly, the food was great, the beds were comfortable and we had an amazing time. My only complaint would be the price of the drinks.

Summary: Lovely Hotel in the Centre of Bangkok!
