Advantages: Superb accomodation

Disadvantages: This is not Ibiza, if that's what you want

This hotel was chosen more or less by chance, rather like the resort (Miami Playa) itself. It was one of the selections in the British Airways Air Miles brochure and seemed to fit the bill.

It turned out to be a very good choice.

The hotel is actually a complex. It consists of a main hotel building, built in a semi-circle around the patio and bathing pools. Stretching away from the hotel are its own private gardens in which you can sunbathe, on provided loungers. There are also tennis courts.

What really makes this hotel different is that bordering onto the gardens is a terrace of self-contained villas. Most of these were privately owned but, as they have come up for sale, the hotel has been buying them.

We had booked rooms in the hotel but were offered one of these villas instead for no extra cost. We accepted with enthusiasm. They are beautiful. The have a large lounge, fully equiped kitchen, three or four bedrooms upstairs and a private sunroof for an all-over tan.

A private balcony at the rear overlooks the gardens. The villa also has its own private garden, with a gate into the hotel gardens.

The hotel is located in a very smart estate of private houses and holiday villas. At the time there was still a lot of building going on but none of it was intrusive or spoilt the holiday

The hotel is only a 100 metres from the beach and about 20 minutes walk from the station (Hospitale de Infante) and about the same into Miami Playa town.

The hotel does have bikes that you can borrow, in various states of repair. Use with caution! It would be better to hire a car. Each villa has an underground garage.

Both Miami Playa and Hospitale de Infante have plenty of shops and restaurants. We ate in several restaurants and always had good food at good value.

For more noisy nightlife visit Salou, just up the coast. For a great family day out visit the Porto Aventura theme park.
You can get there by train.

I can't recommend the hotel too highly. We will definitely go back again.

Difficult to tell. We went on a special deal through BA Air Miles. There were four of us. I would guess that for the week it would have cost us around £650. That doesn't include food or travel.

Best is to call them and get a price. Getting there is easy. Plane to Barcelona then either train to Hospitale d'Infanta or hire a car.
