Advantages: Nice little hotel, quiet
Disadvantages: odd day receptionist
This was the hotel that I stayed at in Paris. We didnt book to stay in this one, we booked at the Regent Montmartre. However as soon as we got there that hotel put us in a taxi to this one. We think they double booked the room and are complaining to Eurostar about it.
Hotel Utrillo is a 2 star small hotel in the heart of Montmartre just up the hill from the Moulin Rouge.
We stayed for 2 nights, and had breakfast on each morning.
The room was a double ensuite. We were very impressed with the bed which was very comfortable. There was no view from the window but the room was clean and warm (we had the heating on the whole time). Every day we came back and our room had been cleaned and tidied. They also gave us clean towels every day.
The bathroom was fine except for the shower which didnt have a very strong spray so it took ages for me to wash my hair. There was a hairdryer which was useful. I took my GHDs with a plug transformer and there were 2 large mirrors. We had ample cupboard space, a desk and phone access to reception.
Downstairs there were 2 computers with free internet access. We thought this was great as we had seen a sign in the other hotel that said they charged 5 Euros an hour for the internet.
There was a 24 hour reception here, so you had to ring the bell to be let in. You then collected the key from the board next to reception.
You couldnt leave the hotel without returning your key, so that they knew you were in and wouldnt go off and loose the key.
Our room was on the 4th floor, there was a lift but it was tiny, and someone got stuck in it on our last day. We got very fit climbing the stairs, especially on the day that we climbed the Eiffel Tower as well! (see seperate review)
In the basement there was a small breakfast area. Breakfast was available from 7 until 10, so we got up at 9 and were in time for breakfast.
It was a sort of buffet style breakfast. There wasnt much choice. There was on offer: Cornflakes, coffee, orange juice and water. Then you got given a crossaint, and a roll each with some jam and butter. I wanted to take some things for lunch but wasnt able to. This cost £7 for the both of us for 2 breakfasts which isnt bad at all.
The staff at this hotel are very helpful, apart from one receptionist who constantly asked when were we leaving. The night receptionist was very friendly and so was the breakfast lady and the cleaners.
We were impressed overall, as it was right next to some nice bars and cafes. There were also a lot of grocers and bakeries near so we had loads to do in the evenings. The hotel is quiet and we didnt hear any noise in the night. The other guests were mostly English and very friendly.
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel and would stay there again. I dont know how much it would cost as I booked the other hotel through the Eurostar website. I think it would be around 90euro a night for a double room.
Summary: Its great as a base for Paris
