Advantages: location, friendliness, cleanliness

Disadvantages: none really apart from all the walking

I went abroad for the first time in my life last year with my boyfriend Paul. I had no idea what to expect from a country other than England and Wales, so I wasn’t sure what it would be like and I was scared that I might not adapt to the hot climate. Our chosen hotel was ‘Flamingo Playa Apartments’ located in central Benidorm. Well actually it wasn’t a case of choosing the hotel, as we had booked it online.
We looked through some brochures of the resort and did a bit of touring on the computer and it looked very nice. Even the aparthotel looked nice, so I couldn’t wait to get there. Also, Benidorm is supposed to be one of the liveliest resorts in Spain. I was worried about the currency and the language over there, but other than that I was looking forward to it.

I had never been on a plane before, so I didn’t know what to expect. The day I got the plane will perhaps shock some of you. It was 11th September 2001. Of all the days to go on holiday, that had to be the day we went. Luckily I didn’t know about the terroist attacks until I got to Benidorm. Though I am sure you can imagine how terrified I was to get a plane back home!

Well anyway back onto the subject of my holiday. We soon arrived at Alicante Airport. This is the nearest airport to the resort of Benidorm.
We next had to get a Thomson coach to Flamingo Playa, after we’d spent ages collecting our luggage. The coach arrived at our destination within an hour, which wasn’t too bad, though the coach was very hot.

We got off the coach and the driver got our luggage for us. The rep walked into the Reception with us to introduce us to the receptionist, then she went back onto the bus.
I had never been in a hotel before (not even in England), so I wasn’t too sure what to expect).
I looked around the Reception. It was fairly large, air-conditioned and looked very clean. There were 3 people in Reception and n
ot a soul anywhere else, from what I could see.
In Reception, I noticed 3 pay phones, 3 lifts, a sitting area made up of sofas and tables, a kiddies club room, notice boards and stairs.
The Receptionist welcomed us to the hotel and gave us our key for the apartment. He was very friendly and helpful.
We also had to pay a small deposit on our room. We were also told we could get a key for our safe in the morning.
We made our way up to our room, via lift with all our luggage.
We opened the door. The apartment looked very nice. There was a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, main room and balcony. It looked very clean and tidy, with nothing out of place what so ever.
There was a nice smell of humid-hot chocolate when we had first got off the plane in Alicante and I could also smell it in the apartment. I decided it was the smell of Spain

Let me firstly start by describing our apartment.

Bedroom:

Our bedroom consisted of a seat, desk and loads of drawers next to 1 large mirror, a safe, loads of drawers, wardrobes with coat hangers in them, bed side cabinets and 2 single beds.

Bathroom:

Our bathroom consisted of a toilet (of course!), a foot bath, a sink, towel holders, a bath and there was also a window at the top, which could be opened. There were also 2 rolls of toilet roll awaiting us.

Kitchen:

The kitchen consisted of a fridge, a microwave, a cooker, cupboards, a bin and drawers with cutlery and cooking essentials in.

Main room:

The main room was made up of a sofa, a colour TV with Sky, loads of drawers, and a table and chairs.

Balcony:

The balcony had chairs and tables on it. We were on the 7th floor so there was a very lovely view of the surrounding area. Mountains, other hotels, bars and even the sea could be spotted. It was very lovely. We also had a view of the swimming pool too.

Other information:

The cleaner came once a
week to change the bed linen, change the towels, give us toilet roll, and hoover the floor. Even the cleaner seemed very friendly.

Flamingo Playa has over 20 floors, each with a balcony. The walls are very thin as everyone could hear everyone very well, especially at night when chairs were scraped across the floor, and the shutting of apartment doors. Kids could also be heard screaming and crying through the walls, but what do you expect.
The hotel has 2 swimming pools. One is for the kiddies and the other is for the adults. They are both shallow at the edge and deeper towards the middle, although they are quite small. Why is it that large hotels always have small pools? If swimming doesn’t interest you, you could aways sit on one of the chairs and tables situated around the pool. There is also a bar in the basement with a range of drinks and also a restaurant for a mixture of different food.

In Reception you will find notice boards with details about your Rep and entertainment provided by the hotel.
Paul and I never went to any entertainment in the hotel so I can’t say what it’s like. We were always enjoying the nightlife. There is a lot of nightlife there, entertainment that will suit every one.

If any help is needed within the hotel, you can either speak to one of the many friendly Receptionists, speak to your Rep or phone your tour operator.
Flamingo Playa has only 3 stars, even though it’s very clean and lovely.
Flamingo Playa is part of Thomson holidays.
It is about a 100/200 metre walk to the beach. It’s about a 400m walk to Mundomar or Aqualandia (a zoo and a water park). It is quite close to the English bars and is about a 600m walk to the old town of Benidorm.

Please see my opinion on Benidorm for more information about Benidorm and Mundomar and Aqualandia etc. Thanks for reading my opinion. I hope this has been helpful for anyone wanting to visit Benidorm!

Hi there! I'd like to read your op, but don't want to strain my eyes. It would heighten the readability of the text enormously if you left two lines free between the paragraphs, your future readers will also be grateful. Please inform me if you decide to follow my advice so that I can come back and read and rate. Cheers, Malu
