Advantages: Top quality hotel with excellent facilities, close to city centre, attentive staff

Disadvantages: Quite expensive

A 4 Star hotel that I would recommend to anyone with a bit more money to spend on accomodation when in Brussels. The Hotel Leopold is relatively central, if you know the city at all you will know that "La Grand Place", the Main Square in the city is one of the most central places. This hotel is about a 15 minute walk from there, and a 5 minute taxi ride. It still for me remains an excellent place to stay, being near enough to the city to enjoy all the sites and entertainment, yet far enough to escape the hustle and bustle. It is actually 5 minutes from the European Parliment, if business or pleasure ever take you there.

I knew that I was staying in a 4 star hotel and that it was supposedly a good hotel, but I was a little suprised when I was driving up the streets nearby as there were a number of run down buildings and I worried that I was staying in a somewhat dodgy area! However, all of a sudden I came across this well maintained hotel with all the traditional doormen outside and i felt a lot more at ease! The hotel was lovely inside, very elegantly and comfortably decorated, with the kind of sofas that you can lose yourself in! It is quite a large hotel with lots of well furnished ensuite rooms, along with tv, radio, minibar, hairdryer etc.

What I particularly enjoyed was the courtyard garden in which I had dinner on many occasions. All the blocks of the hotel looked down into the couryard which was beautiful, with lots of plants and flowers along with tables and chairs. From both the courtyard and reception it led into two restaurants. The first being the deluxe a la carte restaurant, which has been awarded many top awards so I understand. There is also another which deals in bar meals and less extravagent meals. Both served excellent food, which although not cheap, was neither expensive. On the lower ground floor there was also a brasserie which served breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was the usual continental affair, with a huge array o
f cold meats, cheeses, pastries and fruits.

Throughout my 5 day stay I was very impressed with the staff, who all treated me very well, being helpful when required. There was always a lot of staff on duty rather than being unable to find anyone, which can often be the case.

When I go to Brussels again, contingent on being able to afford the rates, I will definitely stay there again.I hear it is very popular though and in most cases you will have to book in advance to guarentee a room.

Good review, but it could have been improved with a little more attention to spelling and punctuation!
