... were ripped off. Anyway, the nice, helpful taxi driver (do you sense a hint of sarcasm here) dropped us in front of the hotel and begrudgingly got our cases out of the boot. The front of the hotel was exactly like the picture on the website. On entering the hotel foyer it felt like a renovated apartment block which is what it may have been in another life. everything seemed brand new, very clean and smart. Now a little more info.... Location The hotel is located on a tree lined street, in the very centre of Plo...more

Premium Review Hotels in Bulgaria: Is the Dafi Hotel a Lame Duck! (645 words)
by - written on 22/05/08 (Very useful, 109 readings)
Rating:

Dafi Hotel is a three star hotel in Plovdiv. I had seen it advertised on various websites and as we were spending a few days in Plovdiv we thought we would check it out. The reason for our trip to Plovdiv was house hunting with the intention of buying. We were also visiting other parts of Bulgaria like Karlovo, Sofia and Veliko Turnovo but Plovdiv and The Dafi were our first port of call. Leaving Krumovo airport, a very small airport which seemed at the time like a shed in the middle of nowhere, we decided to get a taxi as neither my husband or I could speak any Bulgarian. Although it is much easier than Polish! Now as every traveller knows you should ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review IFA Nessebur Palace, Bay & Mare Hotels (822 words)
by - written on 29/09/06 (Very useful, 186 readings)
Rating:

We stayed at the Nessebar Palace in September 2006. The hotel was about a 45 minute coach transfer from the airport, although that could be longer/shorter depending on what drop off’s you have in between. As you approach, you can see that it stands out from the crowd, as it towers over all its neighbouring buildings. This hotel is part of a complex (http://www.ifahotels.com/hotels/en/hotels/bulgaria/riviera/index.asp), with the 5 star ‘Palace’ in the middle and the 4 star ‘Bay’ and ‘Mare’ on either side. All hotels share the same beach, sports facilities and evening entertainment, however for meals and (all inclusive) drinks you need to be at your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hotels in Bulgaria: A Mixed Experience - Borovets (726 words)
by - written on 11/07/02 (Very useful, 2174 readings)

I recently went skiing in the resort of Borovets in Bulgaria. We went as a school party (but thats another story) and this opinion is written based on my own personal needs. We stayed at the Hotel Rila which is classified as a 4 star hotel, however knowing the economic plight of the country I didnt hold out with much hope and went with low expectations. This was probably the best strategy in the end as when I arrived I was more than pleasantly surprised. The hotel is huge. It hosts a very large bar/lounge area, a TV room, a nightclub and numerous small gift/convenience shops. The rooms are more than basic, they are indeed spacious, tidy, clean and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hotel Emona- Elenite (661 words)
by - written on 15/04/02 (Very useful, 608 readings)
Rating:

The All-inclusive hotel resort was very clean, tidy and friendly. Our villa style accommodation provided a very comfortable base. The only bad point was our shower leaked but that was the only bad thing about our room and was easily solved by putting down and extra towel. Other wise the accommodation was great. Hotel Emona is set 500m (yes 1/2 a mile) from food, shops, beach, and pool, but the walk is pleasant and at least gives you some exercise and keeps any beach/pool/nightlife noise away from you. The Bulgarian food you have to get used to. Cold soups are normal. Expect to never really know what you are eating. (Sometime the best thing) ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hotels in Bulgaria: Four star hotel?? (633 words)
by - written on 26/01/01 (Very useful, 345 readings)
Rating:

The Rila Hotel in Borovets is a four star hotel according to Bulgarian standards. FOOD: On arrival at this large, clean looking hotel we were treated to a supper of tomatoes, dry bread, some kind of sausage and a piece of cake. This was served in a poorly lit dining room on a dark green, food stained tablecloth. We were informed that if we required anything to drink this had to be paid for seperately. Drinks were only included at breakfast. Breakfast the next morning was better than expected. There was a good selection of hot and cold food to choose from and an ample supply of hot coffee. Scrambled eggs and various kinds of sausages were served ...  Read the complete review
