Advantages: Wonderful comfortable beds! Quality hotel, great amenities.
Disadvantages: Not the prettiest city in Winter!
This review is mainly about one particular Calgary Hotel that is not separately listed.
In early 2007 I was not too impressed to be travelling from UK to Calgary on business, but the Sheraton Cavalier in Calgary made the trip considerably more bearable than expected.
I found Calgary cool and dirty, but on entering the Sheraton Cavalier I could forget all about it. The staff in the reception and foyer area were courteous, smiling, and very ready to help.
This hotel is located in the North East of the city, within easy reach of many retail and business estates. There are always taxis waiting outside.
The room I was llocated was spacious and VERY comfortable! There was a large TV, lovely full bathroom, lounge area, and individual air conditioning controls.
Best of all was the Sheraton bed. I think the brand makes a big thing about their beds, and they're amazing. There is a feather bed on top of the mattress, the sheets are fabulous Egyptian cotton, with wonderful plump pillows and a microfibre cushion to top them. The quilt is so fat, with wonderful quality cotton cover.
When you're a long way from home and in a different time zone, and missing family, any comfort helps, and this bed was marvellous. At first I felt I was being swallowed by a giant marshmallow! But once the feather bed and pillows had sunk a bit and the movement stopped, it was so soft!
The food in the hotel was lovely, but not particularly cheap, as would be expected for a quality hotel. You could dine in several places, from a cafe, to a pub, to a carvery...
As expected there is a fitness suite and conference facilities, and furnishing throughout is very high quality.
There was even a fabulous pool/leisure facility in the basement, with great tube slides for the kids!
There is another Sheraton in Calgary, and I would not hesitate to use that as well, having experienced the Sheraton quality.
You can search the special offers, use "Starwood" points that you accrue, and use promotional codes on their website. Prices start about 160Canadian Dollars per night - there are a number of special offers that crop up, and prices do vary a lot however. Prices I've seen range up to the 460 Canadian Dollers mark, but it's always worth checking sites like AsiaRooms which block book at a discount, then sell on the rooms.
Summary: A very acceptable residence should you find yourself in Calgary for a little while!

- 22/02/08 I will try and do that - thanks. |

- 21/02/08 I would ask Dooyoo to add this hotel to the list rather than leaving the review here where it doesn't really belong, Susan |

- 21/02/08 I think it's generally a better idea to ask for the hotel to be added through the suggestion system rather than doing it as a 'hotel in general'. |
