Advantages: near to Disneyland, clean rooms, cheap rates

Disadvantages: none

I have stayed in California three times now. Twice at The Castle Inn and Suites, once at The Jolly Roger and Best Western San Diego.

Castle Inn and Suites is the one I shall be reviewing, as I have stayed here twice, and one of the times was only two weeks ago.

In 1997, my husband and I booked a holiday to Anaheim, California. We had already seen Disneyworld at Florida, so we wanted to check out the original Disneyland at California.
Anaheim is where it's at and we wanted a hotel/motel near as possible.
Casle Inn is a motel styled in the shape of a castle hence the name.
It's situated on South Harbor Boulevard just a little bit further down from the entrance to Disney.

We have stayed in a basic room, but a few weeks ago we stayed in a suite.
The standard rooms are still very spacious, as in my title you can swing a cat round. The rooms are set in a inner courtyard and remind me of Butlins and the chalets.
There are three floors, which is better to stay on the top floor if you don't want to be woke up by noisy people above you.

The rooms have two Queen size beds, a 25" Colour TV, Coffee Maker, refrigerator and clock radio.
Also there are two chairs and a coffee table. There is also a telephone where you can have free local calls.
The bathroom was white and clean, there was a bath/shower, a loo and washbasin was outside the bathroom next to an open wardrobe.
Well if that's what they call a wardrobe. It's actually just a rail with some sliding doors around it.

This time we had a Parlour Suite, we had all the facelities of the standard room, but with an extra room on entrance.
This room had an extra 25" TV, a sofa settee, and another table, also microwave.
It was quite nice, as if we weren't ready when my parents came round, they could wait in our little lounge.
OOOOh aren't we the posh ones!!!!
The bathroom was a little nicer, we had a sink
in there as well as one in our bedroom.
The one in the bedroom had a nice big mirror one it and a large vanity area. There was even a hairdryer.

There are other kinds of suites available, there's the Executive Suite, which is where the bedroom is just partioned off, not a seperate room like the Parlor Suite.
Then there is the Family Suite, in the fron room there is a kingsize bed,and a TV, in the bedrrom itself there are two Queensized beds, there is also an extra sink unit, and TV.

Once when somebodies door was open, I saw they had an open plan Jacuzzi, I'm not sure what rooms they were, but I was wishing I had one.

The rooms are cleaned and your beds are made everyday. You get shampoo and nice bars of soap everytime you use one.
I'm murder for slipping them into my bag everyday, I just use one bar of soap and put the others to one side, hee hee.
Even the toilet rolls are folded over very nicely.
The maids are very friendly, once when I had left all my soft toys on the bed, which I had won at Disney, they arranged them on the bed and left a note saying "We're having a party".
I gave one of the maids a $10 tip plus a cuddly toy for being so nice.

The grounds of the motel house a very small swimming pool which gets slightly crowded after 7.0clock for some reason.
There's also a jacuzzi and childrens play pool, I found that at 10.0clcok in the morning, it was safe to go in, without being disturbed that is.
Everybody had gone to Disney so the jacuzzi was all ours.
Next door to the pool area is a launderette, which has three superb washers and dryers.
I had to use these as the very nice men who shove your suitcases round at the aiport smashed all my shower gel all over my clothes and stained them blue. I had to spend the first day washing.

There is a decent size car park in the courtyard which was great for parking right outside our room, there is no charge
.

There is a gift shop at the premises entrance which stays open quite late. Here are some lovely chappies who will make sure your postcards get home safe, they only took a week.
They sell everything from postcards, food, booze, washing powder, medicinal stuff, and t-shirts.
They were very obliging and have owned the shop for over 10 years.

The reception staff were pleasant enough, I wouldn't say over friendly, but OK.
There is free coffee in the reception every morning, there are also a couple of pay phones.
There is no restaurant on site, but if you have read my Anaheim op, then you will know there are plenty nearby.
They are all within walking distance, even for an American.

At night, The Castle Inn lights up, it looks lovely.
I would say to anyone looking for a spacious room and wanting Disneyland at their fingertips, then this is the place to stay.
We paid about £56 for the Standard room per night, per room that is, and the Parlour Suite, £72 a night.
Remember this is for the room only and you can fit at least 4 people in, that's if you don't mind sharing.!!!
