The Chateau de Courcelles is found just out of Reims in Champagne country (2 hours South of Calais), making it a great weekend get-away spot :) It is possibly one of the most enchanting and beautiful chateaux I've ever encountered and stayed there recently for one night. Originally this was a royal household, later privately owned by wealthy individuals, and has been a hotel only since 1993. Due to it being a recent hotel it is working very hard to be recognised and now is the perfect time to go while it remains a relatively unknown hotel. The whole experience was the epitamy of luxury, with the most 'incredible' food you could not possibly imagine you'd ever come across in England, with foie gras, oysters, wine-lists that feature bottles of wine at £3200 (we chose a fantastic wine which came to £79 per bottle). The wine was probably the most expensive thing on our bill, as the supposedly 3-course dinner (which in fact was 8 courses... though unbelievably light and didn't leave you bloated in the slightest), came to less than £40 per head... I cannot think of anywhere in the UK where a meal like this could be less than £100-£160 per head! It is part of the "Relais & Chateaux" hotels... the bible for any traveller wishing for good service and luxury treatment. See www.relaischateaux.com for more details and http://www.relaischateaux.com/site/us/FicheAdheren t?RcCode=courcelles for this wonderful chateau I have mentioned... you have pictures of the chateau, the rooms and the surrounding grounds. The bill was approx. £125 per head for the night, with dinner and a fantastic breakfast (the cafe complet: fruit juice, fruit salad, yoghurt, croissant, baguette, cinammon raisin whirl, muffin and brioche toast with coffee). Hmmm... go see for yourselves. There is a spa, and horse-riding plus jogging routes available, making it a great venue to get away from it all, be healthy, get pampered and relax t
o the max. The charm about this place is it's grand hotel look with none of the the pretentious snootiness which you often find in these places!
