Advantages: Quiet, Hammocks

Disadvantages: Not cheap

I have just returned from a very relaxing holiday on the lovely sunny island of Key West. During our stay we based ourselves at the "Banana Bay Resort". It's a quiet, motel style resort set in acres of lush, tropical foliage, on the edge of a small marina. It has a pool, hot tub, a beach side bar, a small terrace overlooking the sea where you can eat your breakfast and a few hammocks in which to really relax.
The rooms are some of the best i've ever stayed in in the States. Large, comfortable and air conditioned, with a king sized four poster bamboo bed, kitchen, balcony, TV, radio etc.
The resort is only open to over 16's. This means that you can have an extremely relaxing time around the pool, sipping rum runners and reading a good book, without having to put up with screaming kids or being splashed every second from the pool.
The resort is situated on the main road around the island. When we first arrived we thought it may be too far out, but the excellent public transport stops right outside the hotel and for $5 you can ride the Bone Island Transport all day long. It's also far enough away from Duval St. (the main street on the island) to not be affected by the noise generated by all the partying going on down there.
We booked our holiday through Virgin and it cost us around £850 each for eight nights, so while it's not the cheapest place in the world to stay, I'd certainly say we got our moneys worth.
Having visited other resorts while we were there, I can say that there are better looking and more expensive places to stay, but you'd be hard pressed to beat this one.
Recommended.

My work colleague stayed here a few years ago, she loved it too.
