Advantages: Beautiful island, Coconut palm trees all around, White sandy beaches

Disadvantages: Some places a little touristy

I am a frequent visitor to Koh Samui for the past 10 years. It has changed so much however it's still a great holiday island and most people love it and say they will return. Because of the growth in the number of hotels there are of course hotels & resorts that are better than others. The best way to check is have a look at http://www.samui1st.com and read the guest reviews. Apparently more reviews are added each day so you can generally get a good idea about a particular hotel or resort from guests who recently stayed there. Personally I prefer Maenam Beach because it's ideal for swimming however if you want to be near the nightlife then opt for Chaweng or Lamai.

Happy New Year and welcome to dooyoo!

I was hoping to read about your opinion of these hotels and your experiences good and/or bad, however I wasn't expecting to be asked to follow a link to a site that has other guests' reviews.

If I could suggest you have a read round the site to get a general idea of the kind of standard of review here, especially in the Travel section as that seems to be your particular interest, and see which reviews attract more reads (and higher ratings) because of the relevant information contained therein. The more relevant (and comprehensive) the information the more use it is to other readers/consumers.

Hope that helps.
