In July I was fortunate enough to visit San Diego, Los Angeles and Las Vegas before returning back to the UK. Everything was going perfectly, the hotels stayed in were excellent the hire car was decent and we hadn’t picked up any speeding fines driving between the three locations. Life was sweet.

However, in Las Vegas we had the misfortune to gamble at the Venetian Casino. We decided to go there, as this casino was close to our hotel as well as being one of the major players on the Las Vegas strip. After signing up for their loyalty card we hit the slots machines and tables. Everything was going fine as we were having a good laugh playing the games and generally not losing too much money in the process until we decided to play on a couple of adjoining slot machines called Stampede.

We both entered $20 into our machines but my machine failed to register the credits. No problem I thought as this happens quite often as the notes get trapped in the feeder and all it needs is for a member of staff to open the machine and retrieve the note as had happened on numerous occasions.

I called over a hostess who promptly radioed for one of the repairmen. Everything going well as he came over within a minute and I still had about half of my beer left. I stress here that I was not drunk or even remotely nearing such a state…….at that time!!

Well, he opened up the machine had a look in the feeder but alas he could not see the note and called over one of the supervisors. Calmly, I explained what had happened to him and he looked at the machine and inserted a note into it and voila the machine registered the credits. Fantastic I thought he had put the credits onto the machine and we’d continue on our merry way losing more money but how wrong was I.

He turned to me and said that as he couldn’t find the money in the machine it could only be refunded on cashing up the machine. Fair enough I thought and
I was asked to fill in a basic form giving my details.

On completing the form, I requested that instead of sending the money to me, in the UK, that the money should be sent to the friend on holiday with me as he had a USD account and I didn’t, thus avoiding bank charges which would make the cheque worthless for me.

This then started an argument about who put the money into the machine as it was my money and not my friends. This was solved easily we thought by my friend giving me $20 form his pocket in view of him.

This angered him and he said rather impolitely, “hey, what’s $20. You don’t want to ruin your holiday over $20”.

Somewhat taken aback by this response I looked disbelieving at him and replied jokingly, “about 15 minutes playing that machine” and laughed with the mechanic, hostess and my friend who was watching and listening.

Thinking back on it now I should have said that if $20 was nothing then he should reimburse me immediately. Finally, after continuing to treat me like a criminal he eventually agreed that the cheque could be sent to my friend after making me feel as if I had done something wrong and was untrustworthy.

Needless to say we left the casino without gambling there any further and enjoyed losing money in other casino’s.

Therefore, I rate the Venetian as appalling and urge you to think twice about going there as there are plenty of excellent casino’s within a 5 minute walk.

The money was never returned.

An interesting tale, but not really broad enough for me to give you a VU...what about the food there, what did you think about the shopping area with the 3rd floor indoor waterway, what about the rooms.....

well they suck dont they! not the famous US customer service you hear so much about! if i go that way Ill keep away from that casino as a protest ;)

Agree with Malu - I saw a TV program on this place once and it looked amazing. However, I do take your point about the customer service. Good op.
