In 1999 I stayed in the Marina Del Rey hotel, Santa Monica. LA is such a spread out place it was difficult to choose somewhere to stay, so we decided on near the beach at the Marina Del Rey. Our holiday was booked through Virgin and the hotel was clean and well equipped. The staff was friendly and the hotel was in a nice location, if not a little remote. The hotel is sited right in the heart of the largest man made marina in the world, so is a pretty location.
The whole problem with LA is the size and not really wanting to drive we were reliant on public transport and taxi’s. This is an important budget factor for the traveller. That said we walked down to Santa Monica about 4 miles down “Baywatch beach”. I really recommend this on a Sunday, as the place is alive with colour and people.
Overall we found the Marina Del Rey to be a reasonable hotel.
