Advantages: Really good service and facilities, very picturesque and relaxing

Disadvantages: Far from Kuah (the main town) and other attractions on Langkawi, room rates are expensive.

Tanjung Rhu Resort is a 5 star super deluxe hotel on the north coast of Langkawi Island. I recently stayed there for 3 nights and really did not want to leave. It is very pricey but if you want to pamper yourself and have a special occasion to celebrate, I really must recommend this hotel.

Tanjung Rhu is named after the casuarina trees that line its private beach. It is very long and completely deserted. All you can see are two small islands rising out of the sea and maybe a lone person wandering lonely along the beach.

When you arrive in Langkawi, you are picked up by the hotel's own transport and it is a 20 minute drive from the airport or Kuah (the main town). You are taken straight to you room and offered a drink while you check in in complete privacy. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, everyone greets you as you wander about the resort.

The rooms are huge and really tastefully decorated. There is a huge bath and walk-in shower in each room, beautiful wood floors in the rooms and Langkawi marble in the bathrooms. You are given a daily local fruit bowl and a newspaper and newsletter to let you know what events are going on around the resort. Each room also has a CD player and VCR - you can borrow CDs and videos from the reading room.

When they service the room each day they also put away your things tidily and fold your clothes - it made us feel guilty for being so messy but it was a nice touch!

The pool areas are so beautiful and restful - one looks more like a landscaped water feature than a swimming pool that we were really hard pressed to tear ourselves away from the resort to see the rest of the island. (The concierge will help you with any arrangements if you want to go on any of the trips or see any of the sights available on the island - we went snorkelling at Pulau Payar Marine Park.) If you need any service while by the pool, green flags are provided by all the deckchairs to get the attention o
f the pool bar staff. They also walked around on very hot days with slices of watermelon and pineapple and cold towels to freshen up afterwards.

The food was pricey for Malaysia but cheap if you are from the West and there is a good selection of restaurants.

There is also a health/fitness centre and you can get a selection of massages there - either in the health centre, under the trees, by the pool or in your room.

There were quite a lot of families there which was great and they provide a babysitting service which the family downstairs from us took advantage of every night we were there.

I just had the best time there. It was sooooo relaxing and I was really sad to leave. I didn't think that it would be possible for it to be worth the price (currently about £160-240 per night)but it definitely is.
