Advantages: Great location next to time square, relatively cheap.

Disadvantages: Only 2/3 star and pretty basic.

The hotel I stayed in during my three night trip to New York was the Milford Plaza. It was one of several I considered when looking online and in the brochures but the decision was made by the location of the hotel. It was literally round the corner from times square which has got to be the heart of New York. We booked our flight and hotel seperately on expedia and the Milford Plaza was one of the cheaper hotels and was only a 2/3 star. The more expensive and arguably better hotels seemed to be further away and we planned to do lots of walking. The hotel was within walking distance of the Empire State Building.

I think a hotel is only needed to provide a base for your travels and when you're visting a city like New York there is so much to see in the city that you are never actually in the hotel. We left first thing in the morning and didn't return while last thing at night.

When we arrived at the hotel we were suprised at how magnificent the lobby was, it was so grand. Check in went smoothly but it not wake long before a porter had taken our luggage and was stood waiting for a tip when we arrived at our room. This is just a taste of what New York is like, they want a tip for everything so it is not reflective of the hotel.

We had two problems while staying, one was the safety deposit machine did not work and this was fixed as soon as we reported it. The other was that the heating was faulty and it was so hot all the time,it was very uncomfortable to sleep at night and this unfortunately was never resolved. We also found a cockroach in our bathroom on the last day.

New York was fantastic, the hotel was not,but if you're just looking for a base in a great location it is a ideal hotel.
