Going to The Big Apple is a exciting and mind-blowing experience, especially if, like me, you live in a rural english town. There is soooooooo much to do and soooooooo much to see, which means you'll be getting up early and staying out late to make the most of your time there. This obviously means you'll not be spending that much time at your hotel.

But to make your stay most enjoyable i'd recommend the Hotel Excelsior. I've heard stories from my friends about cheap hotels that involved dirty rooms and rats, so when i arrived at Excelsior i was suprised at how nice it was as a medium priced hotel.
The Rooms were very nice ( although my view consisted of a brick wall.)They had TV and Radio,Room service from the coffee shop. Ensuite shower and bathroom facilities,Air conditioning, a foyer bit to the room with a sofa bed and in the main room a double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
We decided to eat out as much as possible to get that new york feel from our food. So we only sampled the breakfast menu once. We had continental for two people (even tho there were six of us). This was quite pricey but you got a whole basket of danish pastries, toast and coffee in that price(which was enough for our group of 6).

The Hotel was located in the upper west side which is quite popular for hotels and my friends could look out onto central park from they're window( they got the best room, dammit). This part of new york is quieter but when you wander around this area there are an aray of resteraunts bars and places for breakfasts. Also local shops and cafes.
To get to the main bit of manhattan,i'm talking about Times square etc you'd have to get a yellow cab which is not very expensive but can be hard at times. Every time i took a cab the drivers were foreign and didn't know where the destinations wee by name. So if you get a cab make sure you know what the street names are so you don't end up in the shitty bits
of NY.

All in all it was a nice hotel and we even spotted a couple of celebs walking past in the morning(william baldwin, if you can call him a celeb was looking soooooo rough!)
