HOTEL LIBERTEL TERMINUS NORD.

Last week, I was sent to Paris for a course (yes, I am lucky sometimes). We had to stay overnight, so a hotel was booked. It was just opposite the station, Gare du Nord, where we arrived with the Eurostar ( pub cue: here you could read my op about, ding dong). So very convenient.

The building and decoration are beautiful, in a Victorian style. There are 237 rooms well sized. Mine had 2 different areas : bedroom with 2 single bed together(?), side tables, cable TV, wardrobe and dressing table. There was a separate lounge with 2 armchairs, coffee table, desk and chair, mini-bar and a second wardrobe.

It included all the usual commodities: coffee/tea facilities, toiletries, hairdryer, safe, telephone, double-glazing (centre of Paris, but you could not hear a fly).

The bathroom was well lit, with a large bath/shower and plenty of mirrors (including a make-up mirror).

At a first look, I was more than happy with my room. Enough space to move around, to keep all my stuff, and have my friends there without feeling claustrophobic.You could even dance (and we tried).

Colours and prints were charming, though getting old and faded. But I liked the general idea, I could agree with the decorator which is not that often in a hotel..

The only bit as I said, carpets were worn, walls could do with some repainting or plastering. It is somehow neglected.

I did not try the room service (they have got a full menu) as we went out to dinner, however we had a quick look at the bar and restaurants (that boast remarkable stained-glass windows) and were designed as English pubs.

Next morning we went for the buffet breakfast instead of having delivered our choice to our rooms. And it was great, high quality:

-Basket of breads, croissants and vienoisseries (in Paris, so perfect)
-Basket of fruits (great!)
-Orange, apple juice
-Yoghurts
-Butter, jam, honey, cho
colate spread
-Selection of cheeses, hams, bacon…
-Eggs (boiled or scrambled)
-Coffee, teas, hot chocolate.
And many things I cannot even remember. Everything tasted great and fresh: I have not enjoyed so much a breakfast for a long time.

But it was time to leave for our course (although there was meeting rooms at the hotel, we went to a less lavish place).

The service was very polite all the time, very French. They are all bilingual (and used to deal with English: you will have The Guardian or The Times in the vestibule).
When leaving I saw the prices: about £175 for my room +£12 for the breakfast. Of course that is not the amount my company is paying but on the expensive side anyway (not such a surprise).

In my next visit to France, I will sadly go back to Ibis or similar (unless it is paid for again).
