I have just come back from a holiday in Penang and we stayed in the Continental Hotel.

It was quite cheap for a double room and at first sight seemed quite nice. The first room we had was very nice. It was very spacious and had a really nice view. The bathroom was quite clean and had all the facilities you would expect. They could have provided you with more soap though. There was a good cable channel which showed a good range of films. Generally, I was happy with the accommodation.

We checked out for a couple of says to stay by the sea, and requested to rebook the same room. However, when we checked in later on in the week, they had given our room to someone else. I was a bit disappointed and my disappointment grew as we were led to a really small room which stank of smoke. The sheets didn't look as though they had been changed and the bathroom had not been cleaned. After trying to put up with the room, we decided to ask for a change of room as we couldn't stand the smell.

We were then shown to another room at about 1am. It was a larger room and seemed quite nice. However, there was a door which when we opened...led straight into someone else's room! There was a man snoring in his bed. We had no security so we called the porter who then came and woke the man next door and asked him to shut his internal door. The bathroom in this room had also not been cleaned, but it did smell better.

The room came with breakfast. It was buffet style. The food wasn't that great, the eggs looked like they had been deep fried and the noodles were cold. Worse than that was the fly floating in the juice dispenser. It's probably safer eating food from the hawkers. Anyway, it put me off for the whole week.

Lastly, to add to our nightmare was that anyone can walk into the hotel lobby. The porters aren't the best in the world and a man came in off the street and tried to steal my bags. They were r
ight in front of me and I even said "NO, go away!". When he tried to take my suitcase I shouted a bit louder and the receptionist just grinned and there wasn't a porter anywhere to be seen.

I would definately not recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff are useless and the service is really bad.
