Hotels in San Francisco in general

Newest Review: ... of 'interesting' reviews on other sites! True, the hotel is opposite a sex shop but, equally, it is just a few blocks away from the trendy Union Square. We find the neighbourhoods in SFO are very acute: a 'seedy' area and then just a couple of blocks somewhere chic. It all adds to the diversity of holidaying in The States. All we ask for in a hotel is a clean and comfortable room at an affordable price and this is exactly what we got on each occasion. We like to spend our days out and about enjoying one of our favourite destinations in the USA so don't spend much time in the hotel itself. I guess our needs are quite basic but it does ... more

Premium Review Hotels in San Francisco in general: Monarch Hotel, San Francisco (209 words)

The Monarch Hotel is centrally situated on Geary Street, San Francisco and is very close to transport links. We have stayed there on three occasions and have not been disappointed despite reading lots of 'interesting' reviews on other sites! Premium Review Downtown Motel (308 words)

Having been to the USA several times , mainly Florida, we ignored advice to book our hotel in San Francisco thinking that there would be plenty to chose from – big mistake. We arrived on a Friday along with half the population of America on their weekend breaks & every hotel we fancied was either full or the price had been hiked up . Now you don’t need this after an 11 hour flight & I have to say that we were getting a bit panicky. Eventually we found a small motel just off Van Ness & gladly took the first room offered. Another BIG mistake ! We fell into bed exhausted only to be woken in the early hours by screeching car wheels outside & a lot of shouting. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hotels in San Francisco in general: Grand Hyatt (204 words)

The Grand Hyatt is situated in the centre of San Francisco near Union Square. That's quite a handy location for shopping and eating, and it's quite easy to get on to the 101 from there. It is quite a tall building, and quite old too. For this reason there are notes in the room telling you that the swaying of the building and the associated noise are quite normal and nothing to be worried about! The rooms are a bit on the small side by American standards (about two thirds of the size of the rooms at the Hyatt Regency at San Francisco Airport), but are decorated and furnished very nicely. The big selling point for me is that they have TV's in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Renovated Ramada? (213 words)
by - written on 18/10/00 (Very useful, 46 readings)
Rating:

I've just returned from San Francisco from the Ramada Inn at Union Square, just opposite the Hilton. We stayed in the hotel basically due to cost and the fact that they had avalibility. It was once a 2 star but was upgraded following renovation. The hotel is very small and very old, although it has a new lick of paint this does little to help the overall appearence of the hotel. Here is the most important tip, if you are staying in this hotel, make sure you do not get a room facing the road. The hotel does not have double glazing and it is extremely noisy throughout the night, particularly fire engines for some reason. It was so bad we had to ...  Read the complete review
