Singapore is a small island in South East Asia. With the population of slightly over 5 million, Singapore is multiracial and have recently become multinational too.
If you like the city, loved clean and green envrionment, Singapore is an ideal place to visit. Some of the attractions in Singapore includes the variety of shopping centres and it is reputation as a food haven.
The hotels in Singapore are categorized as 2 star, 3 star, 4 star, 5 star and 6 star. The 6 star hotels are like the legendary Raffles Hotel and Ritz Carlton.Raffles Hotel is world reknowned for the famous people who have stayed in the hotel since the 19th century. Famous writers like Somerset Maugham and Rudyard Kipling and not too long ago Michael Jackson have all stayed in this hotel.
The hotels in Singapore are tightly regulated by the government of Singapore as they want to maintain the clean image. It is also for the reason that tourism is one of the top revenues generator for the country.
Most hotels are found on the shopping belt between Orchard Road to Marina Centre. The hotels located in this area are mostly graded as 4 to 6 stars. The 2 to 3 stars hotels are located outside the city, usually in the suburbs. One area that have seen an emergence of 3 star hotels is in an area call Geylang. This area is notoriously known for its red light reputation. It will be quite an experience staying in the area, in fact Geylang have become a must see area for tourist. Geylang also host a great selections of food. You can get food even at 2 am in the morning.
If you are looking for an extended stay in Singapore, you can opt for serviced apartments. Serviced apartments are self catering luxury apartments. The minimum stay is usually 7 days and they are quite highly priced. For a 7 day stay, you will expect to pay about £120 a day in a one bedroom apartment.
If you prefer a hotel with special themes, you can also choose from a selection of converted pre war houses. These pre war houses was built during the British colonial time and they have unique characteristic. Most of these hotels offer theme experiences like Asian theme, Malay theme, Chinese theme, Indian theme and Eurasian theme. There is also a hotel with a romantic theme.
There are a few bed and breakfast outfit sprouting out to cater for the increasing demand. The bed and breakfast operates the same way as any bed and breakfast here except you get to choose between their local breakfast or continental breakfast. Bed and breakfast is a cheaper options compared to hotel stay.
If you like backpacking,and you are looking for a low budget stay, there are also a few backpackers hostel on offer. The hostels offer individual single bed at only £10 per night and the shower room is shared.
Irrespective of your needs, there is a hotel for you in Singapore. Bear in mind too that all the hotels are airconditioned, you can be assured of a good night sleep.

- 02/10/08 I stayed in a wonderful, really cheap hotel with lots of oriental character, called the Majestic (I think) then spent twice as much on drinks in Raffles. |
