Hotels in Sri Lanka in generalNewest Review: ... or venture to board the bus and they're there once more to load any of your bags into any boot, and shamelessly then ask for a tip from the tired, slightly bemused travellers who don't yet fully understand the currency exchange and handover hundreds of rupees. Sri Lanka operates a mysterious closed currency system, meaning changing money in the UK is virtually impossible for any amount larger than £35, and so all cash exchanges are done either in the airport lobby from men in kiosks who compete for exchange business like excitable Wall Street traders, or at your hotel reception. We heard from others before we left that the best rates wer... more |

I'm currently as inoculated as I've ever been against all manner of disease through a series of Honeymoon injections administered in May this year, and not wanting to waste this fact on our next holiday, we scoured the malaria and rabies world hotspots, with special points awarded for a high stray dog count and any sort of lackadaisical approach to locking up cows championed, especially around busy village roads. We seriously considered Kerala in India but the flight connections were beyond horrendous before we eventually settled on Sri Lanka, the fact an actual proper war had only recently ended didn't deter us tells you just how bad the flights to Kerala really ... Hotel Dolphin - Sri Lanka This hotel is in a fantastic location, right on the orange sand beach, you do get hassled from the beach boys but the sea is so warm it is well worth a visit. We went this October and stayed in a fantastic cottage we ended up getting a free upgrade as the hotel wasn't that busy. The restaurant is open plan and has plenty of choice the beetroot curry is fantastic and there is always a chef close by to inform you of the spice content. The soups are amazing but take your own tea bags if you like your home comforts. There is a free DVD rental service as the entertainment is a bit naff but they do give it a good try. We had our own taxi ... Read the complete review

The Hilton Residence Apartment in Columbo, Sri Lanka is a fabulous place to stay. The Hilton name usually means sky high prices but that is not the case here, yes, it's expensive, not too much so. LOCATION. The Columbo Hilton is set right in the middle of the business district and it's just 35 minutes drive from the airport. Attractions like the Dutch Period Museum and the famous Galle Face Green Park with its long walkway along the seafront and huge lusciously green lawn. This is a brilliant place to stroll along and it's right on the doorstep. FACILITIES. This hotel provides everything you could possibly need in a hotel room. ... Read the complete review

I went to this hotel a year ago, and I could say that this is one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. We set off from Colombo in the morning, and had lunch in a town called Kurunagale (don't remember the name of the place we had lunch at). On our way we saw 3 elephants which is not very uncommon while travelling to Habarana or that side of Sri Lanka. We got to the hotel at around 3.30pm. Driving into the hotel I could tell that I was going to have a memorable holiday here. The reception area was a large airy area, checking in didn't take too much time and the hotel staff were very friendly. We got our welcome drink and were taken to our rooms. The garden was out ... We stayed at the Club Hotel Dolphin from 11th April to 25th April 2008. We stayed in Bungalow No.70 which was next but one to the quiet pool, in our opinion an ideal location. Some of the bungalows have a sea view which would also be nice. The semi open bathroom was different, there is a mesh to large animals/bugs out but we had resident ants and a couple of small geckos which were no trouble. The bungalows are basic but very comfortable with a TV, Tea/coffee making facilities and a minibar. The aircon is very good. The only down side is that they could do with net curtains as you have to keep the blinds closed making then rather dark. We preferred the ... Read the complete review
