The hotels in Switzerland are lovely. They're a lot like ours really. Well, our good ones. The staff are very helpful and they look after you well etc etc. The rooms are clean and pleasant and so are the swimming pools. The restaurants are lovely and the service is very good. They're not really that different to English hotels, apart from one feature I've never encountered in England.

The reason I've chosen to write about this particular feature in the "Hotels In Switzerland" category is because I first experienced it in a hotel, but I don't think they are necessarily restricted to the hotels.

I shall now enlighten you and tell you what the hell I'm on about!
The year before last, I was staying in a hotel in a small town called Meiringen with my family. One evening we were playing table tennis and I needed to go to the toilet. Having never been to the toilet anywhere else in the hotel apart from our room, I had to search briefly before finding one.

It was a nice clean toilet. When I had finished, I flushed the chain and turned round to unlock the door, suddenly this funny sound started coming from behind me.
I turned round to see a small plastic contraption coming out of the bottom of the cistern. Its face was about the size of a CD and it moved out and covered the section of toilet seat in front of it until it had its end on the inside of the seat.

I wondered what on earth was going on, I had never seen anything like it! Once it had stopped moving outwards, I got even more of a shock, the toilet seat started moving! It started revolving until it had turned a full 360 degrees. Then the white contraption moved back into the cistern.

It turned out that this cleaned the toilet seat! The "white contraption" had some sort of disinfectant in it I think, and the toilet seat moved through it to be cleaned.
I thought that was absolutely amazing! I mean, how many times have y
ou gone into a public toilet and found the seat messy?
I thought it was a brilliant idea - a self-cleaning toilet! It's a shame we don't have anything like it here. Well, we might but I've never seen anything.

Anyway, I just thought that I'd enlighten you on that small novelty! So if you're ever using a toilet in Switzerland, don't worry if it starts making funny noises when you've finished, it's only cleaning itself!
