Advantages: Pure luxury
Disadvantages: No wardrobe, not enough to eat! And the wine!!!
I got married last week, and we received a night in the illustrious Castle hotel in Windsor as a present. (Thanx mum and dad!) We arrived there just after midnight and went to the bar for a coffee before retiring for the night. We also ordered a couple of sandwiches. It took over 20 minutes to get our food, but I will admit, they were huge. Well presented and lots of salad and crisps. We went up to the room which was luxurious! The queen size four poster bed was heaven! My complaint about the room was 1 thing. No wardrobe! Now, call me stupid, but, if you are staying overnight somewhere, you are going to get undressed, and have fresh clothes on in the morning. No where to hang my very expensive dress! Nor his very expensive suit! Let alone our ordinary clothes to go home in the next day! I have never stayed in a hotel with no wardrobe! Disgusting! But, we did enjoy our night there if you know what I mean<g> My next gripe was breakfast.... We filled in the form and hung it up on the door handle. To say the room cost £150.00 bed and breakfast, you would think the breakfast would have been filling.... I ordered bacon, eggs, mushrooms and fried bread. I got what I ordered, but, I got 1 egg, (ok) 2 rashers of bacon (also ok) 2 mushrooms... yep, that is not a typo! 2!!! and the final insult, half a round of fried bread! Tight! Tight! Tight!! The hotel had also put a bottle of wine and two glasses next to the bed. As it was in the room you would assume it was a complementary bottle. Nope! When we cheched out and paid the bill, we were asked if we had had the wine. When we said yes, she said it was £7.95 which of course we did have to pay for. The Castle Hotel is a part of Heritage Hotels. So my advice to you.... Take something with you to eat, if you enjoy a hearty breakfast, you won't get one here, and check before you open any wine that they may leave in the room, that it is complementary
... never assume. The hotel may not have been all we were hoping for, but my husband made up for it all<S>

- 24/10/00 Congratulations on your marriage! Out of nosiness - what other furniture was there in the room if there was no wardrobe or did you not notice anything apart from the bed ;)
Maybe they just expected you to throw your clothes on the floor with gay abandon due to being newly wed and everything! |

- 24/10/00 Congratulations anyway! I think I would have complained about the breakfast, personally. At £ 150 per night, it's discraceful. |
