Advantages: weather
Disadvantages: rude rep
We stayed in a hotel in Tunis which was dreadful, I can't remember the exact name but it was one of the only hotels in Tunis.
The hotel was 3 hours from the airport and the journey was terrible there was a police man on every possible place you could stop, roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights etc. The suitcases were on the back seat piled as high as the roof so every time the driver put the brakes on the bags smacked us in the back of the head.
We arrived at about 3am and were taken to our room very quickly, we got up the following morning and 11am which I didn't think was too bad. We decided to lay by the pool that day and while we were enjoying a quick swim we were asked to gather our things and go back to our own hotel! We looked around and our wrist bands were blue and everyone else's were green. Not a great start.
We went to find our pool and as soon as we sat down we were hassled every 20 minutes to play game or someone trying to sell us trips. The food was terrible and the restaurant staff useless they couldn't speak a word of English. On an evening they group tables together and seat you every night so a quiet relaxing meal is not an option because you are trying to make conversation with the other people on your table.
The final disaster was the day before we were due to leave we went to find our rep to see what time the bus was coming. There was no one at the desk where the rep should be so we went to the bar opposite in full view of the desk so we could see when he came back. After about an hour we asked the bar man if he knew where he was, the bar man said he's behind you. I turned round to see a young man about 18 laid on a sofa smoking a peace pipe! We went over and asked what time the bus was tomorrow and he said I told you in the welcome meeting.
I explained we didn't go to the rep meeting as we had arrived at 3 am but he said its not an excuse and that we should have been there at 8.30 am! He eventually told us what time it was coming for us.
The next day we turned up 20 mins early for the bus and say at the same bar. There was another family at the front of the hotel waiting so we went to get a bottle of water. When we came back about 5 minutes later he was ranting and raving at us saying he had been looking all over for us. I was so mad the other family had said we were at the bar area and the rep had only just turned up himself.
We got on the coach with another family who's son sang the theme tune to star wars all the way to the airport!!
All in all not a great holiday but I have heard Hammamet is fantastic just don't go to Tunis.
Summary: stay anywhere but Tunis

- 31/03/09 Still not very useful sa you don't tell us the name of the hotel. And would one really advise against Tunis on the basis of one hotel? I loved Tunis... |
