Advantages: great room features, polite, cheap for what you get
Disadvantages: none
The trouble with New York is there are so many hotels about that its so difficult to choose from. Some are similar but then do you want a hotel that has the same things as all the others or do you want something abit different from everything? On my first visit to NYC I went with a package deal and we stayed in a 3star Bedford Hotel which I found to be pretty nice...the room was big and it had everything in the room I needed. But being 3Star it didn't have a restaurant etc. But it was close to all the attractions in NYC so I when leaving NYC I thought I would go back to the Bedford. Anyway later this year I decided to visit NYC and thought about the Bedford but decided I wanted to mix my own package e.g. buy my own plane tickets and hotel. Well after getting a great deal with American Airlines I thought that I could use the extra bit of money to get a better room. 1800hotels.com (see seperate review) had loads of NYC hotels at great prices so I could go up abit in the quality of hotel. Having narrowed it down to Inter-Continental and UN Plaza I picked the Inter-Continental because it was more central to tourist attractions and going by the pictures the placed looked fantastic. Having arrived at the Inter. you walk into the lobby (I went during Christmas time) and it had a massive Christmas tree in the middle with loads and loads of decorations around the place. We were slightly early to book in (3pm and after) but you can leave your luggage with them and go off shopping. We came back and were given the electronic keys. The porter bought our luggage to our room. On leaving the lobby you are presented with Rolex and Gucci displays. On arriving to the room it was not to bad on size but maybe could of been abit bigger. The bed was massive and really comfortable....inside we had a TV with access to the internet aswell as over 30 channels to choose from including HBO, Fox, CNN etc etc. While I am on the subject of the TV on the nig
ht before we left we had a telephone voicemail left to say that we can check out through the TV and a form is printed out downstairs so you can pay for the extras you bought and to sign out. Very simple. There was a mini bar...but..well very expensive...but when your staying in a 4.5 star hotel you will pay those type of prices. A 330ml beer would be about £3 and a 330ml soft drink would be £2.50...but with plenty of type of food it was tempting to go for it but a bar of chocolate being £1...it puts you off. Likewise with the restaurant downstairs...breakfast can set you back £25 and god knows what the dinner would be. The room had air con and heating which can be adjusted by you. The view isn't spectactular as its not that high of a building and its surrounded in other high buildings. Ours looked out over the entrance and fancied the NYC gym...which isn't a bad thing is it? :) Room service is available 24hours a day. You NYC Times delivered each morning to your door where it is left outside your room. The bathroom had everything and again was abit small but who lives in the bathroom? :) 6 lifts to choose from so your never waiting long to go down. Reception are quick to do there job and I had no cause for complaint or to ask anything as it was all taken care of. Taxis are always waiting out the front and the porter or whatever you call the person out the front will call one for you. You feel that this is def. a 4.5 star hotel...everything about it it really upmarket and I guess the price says it all. For 2 people for 3 nights it cost us £550 which isn't to bad...that works out at £225 per person. The hotel is mainly for business use so booking during the weekend you get a bigger discount as that is when the hotel is less used. You can also book direct through there website. The only problem I had was I emailed the hotel before I left the UK to confirm the reservation but they never replied. Other than that...I would
def. book there again.
