Express by Holiday Inn Rome East ... far from the road. There s a supermarket about a minute from the hotel, which is handy for buying cheap bits for lunches and dinners as there s no restaurant at the hotel. The buffet breakfast s pretty good though - rolls, meat, cheese and cakes, cereal, fruit juice & coffee. I have yet to understand why cake is a breakfast food in Italy, but when in Rome... The rooms are fairly uneventful - clean, average sized (which is honestly palatial by Rome s standards, where nobody believes that swinging a cat is something one ought to do in a hotel room) but with fabulously powerful showers. Hotel Des Artistes ... boutique hotel. Very good for a 3 star rating. My room (the standard classic) was fairly small but clean and comfortable, decorated to a very high standard, no bath but ensuite bathroom otherwise very nice. For families superior and deluxe rooms are available that sleep 3 or 4 people. There was a TV with satellite channels, a hairdryer was provided, air con and an electronic safe. Breakfast was served in the small bar, good selection of continental items. There was also a roof terrace - nice to eat there or take drinks out. Wifi was available (extra charge for this). Albergo Angelo (Edolo, Italy) ... recently reviewed the small town of Edolo in northern Italy, directly north of Brescia in the High Camonica Valley, minutes away from various ski resorts. I turned up at Albergo Angelo relatively late, something like 10pm but in the middle of winter during the holidays and the town was dead. At the top of the town lies a square with two little bridges crossing a river, there s a cobbled courtyard and a hotel on either side of a pedestrian bridge, Alberto Angelo is on the nearest side if you ve walked up from the train station.
