Ok for the price (Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel Manchester)

The Jarvis Piccadilly has just undergone a huge renovation with all rooms being refitted (and making it slightly less ugly from the outside at the same time!). I stayed here in July and the renovation was nearly complete although so work was still going on. I booked a double room for £64 which was cheaper than the ibis down the road so although it used to look horrible I thought I'd give it a go.

I hadn't stayed in the hotel prior to the renovation so can't compare but the rooms weren't as good as you'd expect considering they were meant to be 'new'. Stayed in a double room which was fairly small (probably about a metre spare either side of the bed) and the double bed was rather uncomfotable. The bathroom was not to the standard that it suggests from the pictures on the website and obviously had not been cleaned properly as there were a considerable amount of hairs in the bath. Although the fitting were new, the work had been finished to a poor standard with paint splashed around.

However, the location is very good and the hotel service was excellent. The room has everything that you would expect with tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryer and for a very reasonable price. I had a room on the 12th floor which gave a lovely view over piccadilly gardens. The breakfast had a good selection with a hot buffet and continental options and the bar in the evening was pleasant although drinks were fairly expensive.

Overall, the hotel is good value for money and in an ideal location for the city centre. The staff were very friendly and if I needed somewhere cheap to stay I would go back.
