Advantages: Great braekfast, excellent value for money, fab barman
Disadvantages: next to a couple of sex clubs! Location could be a bit better
My friend and i stayed at this hotel for 4 nights this August. We booked the hotel on ebookers along with a flight from BA and it worked out to cost about £30 each per night. The hotel is a 4 star hotel and i would say it lived up to that.
We stayed there midweek in order to avoid the Stag and Hen parties as the hotel is very close to Wenceslas square where they all hang out!
The hotel is also next door to and opposite 2 caberet's as I think they call themselves but they are basically sex clubs. Now for 2 girl's (well 30 year old girl's!) going on their own we might have thought twice about this hotel had we known about that before. However in a way i'm glad we didn't as we probably wouldn't have chosen to stay at the hotel which would have been a shame. The sex clubs are very inobstrusive - well ok there are pictures of scantily clad women on the outside but nothing very offensive. From Thursday night onwards they did seem busier - gearing up for the weekend and Thursday night we heard a slight bit of music in our room coming through from next door until the early hours but it didn't really affect us. Still slept like logs due to either the very strong drinks the lovely hotel barman was mixing us - or the 12 mile walk around Prague we had just done!
The rooms are very modern in decor but quite small. The only problem i could see with the room was that the bathroom door had a gap of about an inch at the bottom! When you are in a tiny room like that and sharing with a friend it just meant that all noises from the bathroom are heard in the room!! We got round it by rolling up a towel and sticking it there when we went to the loo or for a shower!
The breakfast at the hotel was pretty good and the best thing was it is served until 11am Monday to Thursday so no rushing to get up! On Fridays, Saturday and Sundays it is until 12pm! Great!
There was a large selection - including hot and cold. Some strange items of food catering for different palates - not sure who eats capers or cucumber for breakfast but i'm sure people did!
Although the barman assured us that this particular hotel was not popular with stag parties as it was too expensive there were by Friday morning a couple of largeish groups of males at breaksfast. But not causing any mayhem at that time of the morning.
The location of the hotel is pretty good - we didn't use public transport at all and walked everywhere. However having now got used to the layout of Prague if i went again i would probably want to stay in or nearer the Old Town rather than the more modern and tacky Wensceslas square.
The reception staff were very helpful and the barman was charming! I can't remember his name now but one night when we were drinking red wine he kindly went off to the kitchen and brought us back some bread and a platter of cheese for free!
The drinks in the hotel are pretty expensive for Prague but the bar stays open til 1am. It was pretty quiet when we were there - it is basically a hotel bar in the foyer but nice enough. For cheaper drink and great cheap food head to the Mexican restaurant directly opposite! Glass of wine for 90p! Huge plates of food for about £6!
This hotel represents excellent value for money. Locationwise it could be slightly better but then i think you would end up paying an awful lot more to be in the Old Town.
Summary: Large modern hotel, with good breakfast, clean modern rooms and friendly staff
