Advantages: Good value for money

Disadvantages: Small room

My lovely hubby and I have just got back from a round trip to New Zealand to see his family. Now I suffer from really bad jet lag so we always make a trip of it and do fairly long stop overs.

This trip we did Tokyo and Hong Kong. When picking hotels we try to stay in a nice place but always go based on location. We picked this from hotels.com and paid £340 for 5 nights.

The hotel is a 4* hotel so we expected it to be ok.

LOCATION
It is based in downtown Kowloon (just behind the famous Peninsula hotel) which was, sadly outside our price range. It is just beside a metro station and approximatly five minutes walk from the Star Ferry terminal and the art museum. There are numerous shopping malls, markets and restaurants near by within walking distance and it was great to be able to walk to the ferry. The region is very safe - the only downside is that you are continually bugged by touts for the dodgy watch / handbag shops and tailors but you can just say no!

RECEPTION

Uniformed, English speaking concierge and door staff greet you every time you enter or leave. Reception is manned by friendly staff who cannot do enough to help.

ROOMS
The main drawback of this hotel is the fairly small room but this is the same anywhere in Hong Kong so I dont hold it against this hotel. The room contained a double bed which was very comfy, but a bit of a squeeze for my 6 foot 3 husband! There is a desk and two chairs and a TV with a great range of TV channels. We found over 15 English language channels including the Australian network! You also get free fruit and a bottle of mineral water a day each which is a nice touch. There is a code operated safe too and plenty of wardrobe space. Dressing gowns and robes are also provided for guest use.

BATHROOM
Well equipped - with nice free toiletries - body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel plus soap. There is a toilet, shower with good water pressure and bath. There is air conditioning in all the rooms which works well.

HOUSEKEEPING
Very good - they make up the room very well and you are able to have your towels or bed sheets changed, or not depending on your preference. There is also an evening turn down service. After your room is cleaned you will receive a visit from housekeeping to check that all is ok which is again a nice touch.

FOOD
There are a number of different eateries and bars in the hotel - we did not try them though as they seemed overpriced compared to outside restaurants.

FACILITIES
There is a business centre and lounge and all rooms have internet and a fax machine. There are plenty of bars and places to eat. There is a shopping mall downstairs with a resident starbucks.

OVERALL
A great city centre hotel - brilliant location and a safe, friendly base for your visit to Hong Kong! Highly recommended.

Summary: Great city centre - amazing location
