Advantages: inexpensive and comfortable

If you are looking for a cheap,warm place to go in winter, these apartments might suit you. (google the name) They are in the old town area of Puerto de Carmen, about 15 mins walk uphill from the stoney beach. They are on the busy main road, a few mins walk from bus stops and beside, and above, bars and supermarkets. The harbour is just a couple of miles downhill and has great restaurants and bars which serve local cuisine at reasonable prices, much superior to the "English" fried meals served in bars around the apartments. The beach is a good 15 min walk and at the moment very major roadworks all along the seafront are causing great disheaval. The beach is black and stoney and very uncomfortable, a typical Canary beach.

The apartments are in a complex of some 73 units, all having one bedroom, bathroom and large lounge/kitchen with balcony and sea/pool views. Ours overlooked the noisey, car-polluted main street but the view to the harbour and out to sea was exquisite. Fuerteventura can easily be seen on a clear day. There is no lift so baggage has to be carted up flights of stairs.

The apartments themselves are very bright,comfortable, clean, well equiped and cleaned 5 days a week. The pool, like many in Lanzarote, is unheated and was too cold for our liking, but on warm days others used it. Cooking is difficult on just 2 rings + a microwave so we tended just to make breakfast there.

These apartments are above bars and so are very noisey EVERY night, and well into the small hours of the morning. If you want early nights, this is not the place for you. If you want a cheap holiday in the sun at 2** prices, and you are prepared to take it as you find it, you'll enjoy La Florida.
