Advantages: nice casino, friendly enough staff, rooms was acceptable

Disadvantages: bathroom was horrible, way too expensive for location and accomadations

I wasn't really all that impressed with this hotel when I traveled to Las Vegas close to a month ago, Halloween Weekend 2008. When we interest the hotel we were on the hotel's gaming floor which was pretty nice, there were definitely a lot of slots to choose from and the table minimums were lower than those of other large hotels on Vegas. Their black jack minimums were $10 instead of the normal strip hotels that have a minimum bet of around $20 at their gaming tables.

The hotel lobby, where the games are positioned, has a Star Trek theme that I was not particularly a fan of, but I am not a Star Trek fan at all. I guess it makes sense for Star Trek conventions; maybe they make good money hosting those sorts of conventions because of their Star Trek decorations. The hotel from the outside is huge and it looks pretty cool. This hotel also is attached to the Las Vegas monorail system that made it very convenient to get to the popular Las Vegas strip to experience some gambling at the hotels of the strip. A day pass on the monorail is about $12, a one ride pass is $5, and a weekend pass is $48.

The staff checking us in was very friendly and helpful in helping us locate our room. When we got up to our room on the 11th floor of this hotel I was somewhat impressed after opening the door. The bed was a nice king size, their was a large flat screen tv, there was a little table for eating at and a corner with a desk and a plug that was built into the lamp on the desk, which I personally thought was pretty cool. However, when I walked into the bathroom I was not at all impressed, while the rest of the room looked like it had been updated and remodeled, the bathroom looked as if it were still stuck in the 80's. The un-modern decorations gave the bathroom a dirty vibe and I didn't enjoy my time in their at all. While the bathtub was a large size spa tubp it was still the ugliest bathtub I have ever seen and I would not take a bath in such a gross looking tub. Also, the water pressure in the shower was not pleasant, it didn't have a nice feel good spray, it was more of a sharp and prickly spray.

Also, the Television channels that the Hilton supplies are awful. You probably get like 20 channels and not very good ones. I guess they either don't want you to sit in your room so you will be downstairs gambling and making them money, or they want you to purchase their pay per view television.

If I had the choice over again, I would not stay at the Hilton, not just because I wasn't that impressed with the room, compared to when I stayed at the Venetian 6 months ago, but because the prices at the Hilton are so beyond what the hotel rooms are worth, I believe we paid $189 a night, when we could have been staying at the Venetian, which is a much nicer hotel that is actually located on the Las Vegas strip for about $10 more. So if you are looking for an affordable hotel, this is not the one for you and if you are looking for a luxurious hotel, this is again not the one for you either because you can find a much better deal on the strip. I obviously do not recommend this hotel when it is barely cheaper than the much nicer hotels located on the strip.

Summary: Las Vegas Hilton, Not Worth the Expensive Price

Some will always try to overcharge you, and in the past they pretty much got away with it, but today, with this kind of community literally churning out reviews on every hotel in every possible corner of our world, it is getting more and more difficult for people like these to get away with anything, . . . and I say, our world is the better for it.

I think because this is in 'old' vegas they haven't bothered so much - shame as it was a nice hotel !
