Advantages: Cozy and Roomy, huge grounds, lots of activities!

Disadvantages: Might be too informal for some

While my main accommodation during my vacations had not been at the Coco Beach Hotel, a couple of my Mauritian friends invited us to spend a weekend over there with them. My first reaction of the place was "Wow! Now THAT'S fun!" For a hotel, Coco Beach had absolutely none of the elegant and aristocratic décor which usually grace the walls and structure of most hotels in Mauritius. In fact, this was an elegant place but with very little regard for pomposity. It is situated at Poste de Flacq in Belle-Mare- not the most touristy area of the island, but a nice little town nonetheless!

The striking and most memorable aspect of this hotel remains the brightly colored walls in large orange and green swirls. This already sets the mood for fun, fun and more fun! The reason why it is called Le Coco Beach is because the huge, huge grounds are covered with endless number of coconut trees. In French and Mauritian Creole, coconut is translated into Coco!

We had an inclusive package which was worth every penny. The food was absolutely out of this world! We had some marvellous Mauritian delicacies such as Crab soup, scrambled egg in homemade tomato sauce, Chicken Curry with coconut milk and fragrant rice, Fresh exotic fruit salad, fish cooked in every possible way, and lots and lots of other meals which I never even dreamed of before! After dinner, we usually had nice entertainment such as Sega shows- a traditional Mauritian folkloric dance which I can describe as a Creole version of the Belly Dance. After the show (which included traditional handmade music instruments), we all joined the dancers on the dance floor and jumped around like a bunch of monkeys!

There are so many activities to do at Le Coco Beach during the day! For those with kids, there is an extremely fun Kid's Club. My friend sent her five year old son for the day and he came back full of stories and goody bags. Meanwhile, we relaxed in the hotel's very cozy and comfortable spa and afterwards hit the beach for some serious sea activities such as glass bottom trips, Para-sailing and the most challenging sport of all: Sunbathing! I've acquired such a marvellous tan during my holidays and I really really liked the sea view my hotel room offered. Other activities include bicycle rental and tours, guided tours over the huge grounds, mini-golf, poolside bar and grill, tennis court, volleyball court, croquet court, among so many activities.

I can easily say that my weekend at Le Coco Beach was filled with fun and activities of all sorts!! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who visits Mauritius!

Thanks for reading!

Summary: I got to spend the most energetic weekend ever!
