It did not cause any problems though and overall it did not detract from the comfort. In the morning, the traditional telephone call waking us up was replaced with the TV turning itself on, a welcome change although if I was still inebriated from the night before, I would question what would happen as I slept through the welcome screen! Crowned Review Le Meridien Palace Manchester: "All I need is the air that I breathe..." (1410 words)

I have just spent a night at the Palace Hotel in Manchester, on business. It is a rather grand, distinctively impressive Victorian building right in the heart of the city, that was originally built as insurance offices, apparently, and still does slightly have the feeling as you arrive in the door of being a rather commercial venue. I actually walked past the entrance the first time, assuming that what I could see was a shopping mall or something - the entrance is that vast. It is right next to the Palace Theatre on Oxford Road and is within an easy 10 minute walk of the Arndale centre and other shops. China town is also only a few minutes' walk away and ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The Palace: Fit for a Princess? (1407 words)

I live in Manchester. Not in a “Greater Manchester” kinda way, but in Manchester proper. You may wonder, therefore, why I stayed at the Palace Hotel in the city. I wondered too. But, I was at a national event organised by a national office, and in their national wisdom, they booked all of us in as resident conference delegates, even those of us who live within, um, walking distance. I do like my own place, my own kitchen, my own bed, but not in an obsessive way, so when someone else wants to pay for me to stay in a nice room where I don’t have to make the bed or clean the bath, and where I get 3 meals per day provided gratis, I don’t say no. The Palace Hotel ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Le Meridien Palace Manchester: Fit for a queen? Not quite but good enough for me! (359 words)

I stayed here on 25/10/2008 with my husband and jolly nice it was too. The location is very good especially if you are going to the Manchester Theatre Royal because it is just across the road, it is also just a 5 minute walk from China Town. We parked in the NCP a 2 minute walk from the hotel which cost approx £16 for 24 hrs. The reception area is nothing like I have experienced before, it is more like an old ornate train station with a domed glass ceiling that has to be seen to be believed. The reception staff were pleasant and the concerige very helpful when we asked for directions to the Appollo Theatre. The rooms are long and narrow but not ...  Read the complete review

I took my partner to the Palace Hotel for an overnight Christmas Shopping trip on November 26th, 2008. Arriving at just before noon at Oxford Road, we expected to be asked to leave our bags with the concierge but we were able to check in and head to room 159, a high ceilinged room with very tall windows viewing the corridor that the room was on (no city view unfortunately) a large, very soft double bed and excellent en-suite. I have only one reservation about the room though... the plasterwork around the Victorian pillers in our room was not proven ideal, with gaps large enough to stick my little finger in.
