Advantages: Very grand and stylish

Disadvantages: Thin walls

I stayed here on 25/10/2008 with my husband and jolly nice it was too.

The location is very good especially if you are going to the Manchester Theatre Royal because it is just across the road, it is also just a 5 minute walk from China Town. We parked in the NCP a 2 minute walk from the hotel which cost approx £16 for 24 hrs.
The reception area is nothing like I have experienced before, it is more like an old ornate train station with a domed glass ceiling that has to be seen to be believed. The reception staff were pleasant and the concerige very helpful when we asked for directions to the Appollo Theatre.

The rooms are long and narrow but not too narrow with exceptionally high ceilings which gives the appearance of lots of space. The room was modern and had a comfy double bed a dressing table and a seating area which included 2 chairs and a chaise longe.

We had drinks in the bar which is very laid back but again ornate and grand. The drinks were quite expensive £8.75 for a pint of lager and a vodka and diet coke, the service was excellent though and we were even provided with 2 trays of sliced deep fried potato skins.

In the morning the buffet breakfast was served until a reasonable time 11:00 and there was plenty to go at, although I did think that in such regal surroundings there would have been a waitress service. You can't have it all I suppose.

In all I would recommend The Palace and I would stay there again. I booked it through laterooms for £115 for the night but I believe you can get it for as little as £85 depending on what kind of room you have and when you are staying.

The only negative thing I would really have to say is the walls are quite thin, not between the next door rooms but between the room and the corridor. I woke up a couple of times during the night when people walked past, then again I am a light sleeper.

Summary: I would stay here again
