Advantages: Themed. Scale. Food.
Disadvantages: Being sold to. Long check in queues
The Luxor Hotel proved to be a cracking choice for our honeymoon! I am very glad we choose to go to this cleverly themed hotel / casino which proved to be excellent value for money. However I would aid there are a couple of points that need consideration if you choose this as our venue of choice in Las Vegas.
Upon arrival we got a taxi from the airport to the hotel, which is situated at the bottom of the main strip. This was very well organised by support staff at the airport and made our arrival feel painless. The ride took under ten minutes and was reasonably priced. When we reached the hotel however there was a lack of guidance as at 15.00 check in was manic. On joining a massive queue we were approached by a hotel employee who tried to sell us a time share meeting with the incentive of free show tickets. This was laid on quite thick and felt intrusive. Finally we shook her off and made it to the check in desk. The whole process took about 30 minutes.
Our room was great, very spacious with amazing views. Our room had two double beds, with excellent air con and felt very spacious. The decoration was Egyptian themed, with nice touches all around the room.
The casino is massive! We stayed there for five nights and only be the end did I feel like I knew my way around. The rooms are on the far side from the casino entrance and it takes a good 10 minutes to walk across the floor to the lifts. You won't believe the scale of this place until you go. The decoration of the main casino floor is impressive with giant statues everywhere. All the usual games, machines and table are available for you to win or lose a fortune.
The hotel has a cracking pool. Warning though. Unsurprisingly for a city in the desert. It's hot! Hot! Hot!
The hotel buffet was good value, with an amazing spread of international food for every taste.
The casino looks amazing as a whole. From the outside the hotel is famously pyramid shaped, with the bright light shooting out of the top into the sky. It is linked by monorail to other casinos and is adjoined to the Excalibur.
In summary, we loved our stay in the Luxor. It was fun, theme and we had a brilliant time. But - don't expect to be treated as anything else but a walking dollar sign by your casino / hotel. They will try and sell you stuff (time share etc) and due to the scale you are another number. Saying that, I would expect all the casinos to be like this.
Summary: Fun hotel / casino
