I have stayed at a number of Marriott hotels in the UK and the Far East, and of course the chain's brand carries its own cachet.

I attended a wedding at the Marriott in Leicester in the English Midlands, and the ceremony, reception, and dinner were first class. The staff were naturally courteous, and kept a discreet profile when the situation demanded it. The rooms were adjoining, luxurious, and pleasingly comfortable, with huge flat-screen HD TV installed, with a plentiful choice of channels. Apparently, even their pillows are for sale ...

A word, now, about the J W Marriott in Bangkok; this is my favourite hotel, by some distance. When I go to Bangkok on business, I make a point of going to the JWM cocktail bar at least once, with the conference organisers. It's something of a tradition, as this place is truly magical. This is a good reflection of the hotel as well; the lobby and ground floor is resplendent with ornate, baroque Italianate marble, and is very much decorated and built in the Marriott mould. The shower heads are as big as dinner plates, the towels huge, soft and ticklishly fluffy, and the beds are - well, Marriott beds. Need I write more? Finally, I can only recommend that you stay with Marriott at least once; they're truly 5-star, and deservedly so.
